New state law going into effect next year. Beginning 2020 HVAC repair techs can no longer refill home AC units with the old refrigerant R-22. If you have an older unit that still uses R22 and its low on freon, or you're not sure, you might want to get it inspected before the new law is in place.

SDGE is moving to Time Of Use (TOU) payment plans. In fact, the entire state is moving to TOU sometime in 2019 or 2020. For now they are randomly rolling out the plan throughout the county. Some homes have received a letter telling them they will be switched to a new plan unless they mail in a card or go online to select a plan. SDGE was called to ask about the new plans because there’s no information about the cost per Kwh (kilowatt hour) in the new plans. Here’s what we got...: Currently the rate is $0.23/Kwh for the lowest tier followed by $0.40/kwh when you use more power and go into the 2nd tier. Under TOU the super-low off peak is .22kwh/.39kwh, off peak is .23kwh/.40kwh, on peak is .24kwh/.41kwh....for the winter rates. The difference between the highest and lowest rates in the winter is a whopping 2 cents per Kwh! The summer rates have a more drastic difference between on and off peak . When asked what they are, SDGE didn’t know because they weren’t published yet. Villa Colina power used for area lighting and running pumps at the pool is at a flat commercial rate. We have been offered a TOU plan but need to evaluate it because our lights and pool pumps are on during peak hours.
