Eric Ornelas served in the US Army from 2004 until 2010, including a tour of duty in Afghanistan, as an intelligence analyst. A few weeks ago, Eric and his wif...e, Marie, considered their Christmas shopping excursion, to purchase lights and decorations, a life-changing event as newlyweds. They will celebrate their very first holidays in their brand-new home in Fresno. For that, Eric thanks CalVet’s Home Loans program, which has been helping veterans finance homes since 1921. Read more about CalVet Home Loans and their story in the latest CalVet Connect article. #MyCalVet #CalVetHomeLoans #Veterans #honoringveterans
Although Congress abolished slavery in the District of Columbia in 1862, and President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation ended the practice of slavery... in rebellious states in 1863, at war’s end in 1865 the question of slavery had not been resolved at the national level. It wasn't until December 6, 1865 (155 years ago) when Georgia became the 27th state needed to ratify the 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the abolishment of slavery. #CivilWar #13th #MyCalVet #CalVetConnect

On Dec. 22, 79 years ago, Charles and Leroy Myers of Chico, a father-and-son team heavy equipment operators, were among the civilians captured as POWs at Wake I...sland. Leroy’s civilian status changed shortly after the initial attack on the island, when the U.S. Navy inducted him as a Seaman 1st Class. Interesting piece of history. #WorldWarII #PearlHarbor #MilitaryHistory #USNavy

Today was a perfect day for 100 year old Sheldon. Family, friends and the front line healthcare workers and recreation therapists at the veterans home went above and beyond the call of duty. Everyone took part in the celebration and Sheldon offers his words of gratitude and love. Caring for veterans is what we do...and we do it with class.
