No Lessi is not crying, but she SHOULD be. She has a draining abscess from her upper second premolar which was significantly infected. We performed an extraction and the infection totally resolved. Good dental care is critical to your pets health.

We LOVE getting updates like this from out clients!! Paula here! You asked for a photo and Allie’s health issues as to what she has over come That was last December! So much has happened over these last several months that I neglected to send this reply. If you are still interested, here we go;... I adopted Allie sixteen years ago at age 3. At that time, she was diagnosed with Erythema multiforme. Her tongue was blistering as well as her lips. Allie’s belly was also full of rash and was losing hair daily. Narrowly avoiding a transfusion treatment, we were able to get control of the skin disease administering 400mg of Pentoxifylline daily for the last eighteen years. In 2016 Allie under went surgery to remove a tumor of squamous cell cancer from her right jaw area. One year later, 2017 the cancer returned. I was referred to a specialist in oncology. She again under went surgery to remove that tumor. Clean margins could not be made. For the next six months Allie received chemotherapy at one session per month. Having the opportunity to meet Dr. Niemiec was a life saver. I knew Allie’s teeth needed attention for some time but the several vets with whom I spoke said she may not make it through anesthesia. Dr. Niemiec assured me that that was not the case. He performed extensive oral surgery last November 22, 2019 and her recovery has been so wonderful! Her appetite has retuned and she is happy as ever! Allie does have a bit of arthritis in her hind knees but she does not indicate that she is in any pain, just a little trouble going up and down stairs from stiffness. I can’t thank you Dr. Niemiec, and your team enough for taking such great care of my dog daughter! You all brought her back to me! Allie will be 20 years old in January and if you are interested in an update concerning her health I would enjoy touching base! Thanks again to everyone as my Allie is quite the trooper!

Answer to quiz!!! There is a fractured and infected deciduous canine (red circle). The tooth was extracted to make her to remove the #pain and #infection from her mouth. Fractured #puppy teeth are every bit as. Painful as adult and actually get infected faster in my experience. These need to be extracted expediently to make the patient healthy.

There is an impacted left mandibular FOURTH molar (312) (red circle). While in and of itself, an extra tooth is not a problem since the other teeth have erupted this would be a concern for a cyst. Options are to surgically extract or if a good client to recheck under anesthesia in 6 months to ensure eruption has occurred.

Mya is one of our Jacksonville patients. She is a 2 year old, Great Pyrenees who broke her tooth eating hardwood floors. Her lower left canine was severely damaged so Dr. Holloway performed a root canal and a crown to keep her tooth healthy and in place for the rest of her life.

Snooks's regular veterinary referred him to us because she was worried about his lower canines. His lower canines are fine, however there was some crowding. So we extracted a few incisors to make room and delay periodontal disease. Snooks is doing great after his procedure!

We saw Maggie back in January because she fractured one of her canine teeth! Her owners noticed right away, so we were able to save her tooth with Vital Pulp Therapy (photos 2-4). We just saw her to reevaluate the initial procedure and the tooth looks great (photos 5-7)! We also performed a quick cleaning while we had here.

In special cases, we are able to work with our local specialty hospital and perform procedures with the help of their anesthesia department. Chloe is a regular patient of their cardiology department. About a year ago, with the cardiologist giving her the OK for anesthesia and having a boarded anesthesiologist watch over her during her procedure, we were able to safely put Chloe under anesthesia and help her feel like a brand new dog! We just saw Chloe for her annual cleaning. She did well under anesthesia and didn't need any extractions done! Her whole procedure only took about 45 minutes.

Remember the black Labrador puppy, Olive, we posted a few days ago? Little Magnolia here has the same malocclusion. Magnolia's procedure was a little different than Olive's though, as Magnolia is already about 10 months old and has her adult teeth. Without dental x-rays, one of her lower canines seemed to have been missing. Once dental x-rays we done, we found a whole tooth under the gums! We extracted the impacted canine tooth and performed Vital Pulp Therapy on the other canine.
