This has important health information so please share it. If this was shared to a group, please share it from the original post so others outside the group can ...see it. As Roseville's representative on the Placer County Air Pollution Control District Board of Directors, I and the other board members have been encouraged to share this joint AIR QUALITY ADVISORY issued by Placer County Public Health and the Placer County Air Pollution Control District through at least Sunday, Aug 23. This serves to notify the public of the potential for poor air quality conditions from smoke from the numerous wildfires throughout the state. Areas of smoke may affect all of Placer County, dependent upon wind direction, until the fires are extinguished. Wildfire smoke continues to affect large areas of Placer County with elevated levels of particulate matter and ozone. Poor air quality has the potential to cause negative health impacts, particularly for sensitive groups and when exposure is prolonged. Smoke contains very tiny particles that can be inhaled deep into the lungs. While all people may experience varying degrees of symptoms, the more sensitive individuals - such as young, aged and those with respiratory conditions - are at greatest risk of experiencing serious symptoms. Symptoms may include, but are not limited to, coughing, watery and itchy eyes, headache, scratchy throat, and difficulty in breathing. If you can see or smell smoke, avoid all unnecessary outdoor activities, especially if you are in an area where visibility is greatly reduced. Here are recommended ways to reduce your smoke exposure: Stay indoors with the windows and doors closed, if possible, run the air conditioner on the recirculation setting Limit outdoor exertion and physical activity Leave the smoke-impacted areas until conditions improve, if possible Reduce unnecessary driving. If traveling through smoke-impacted areas, be sure that your vehicle’s ventilation system is on recirculate NonHEPA paper face mask filters and bandana-type face coverings may be helpful in reducing the spread of germs and viruses, but they are not capable of filtering out extra fine particulates which are much smaller in size. Therefore, they will not be helpful in protecting individuals from smoke-related impacts. Information on the use of masks and face coverings during smoke impacts can be found here. www.placerair.org Anyone experiencing serious symptoms due to smoke should contact a health professional. Persons who have a respiratory-related illness may also wish to consult their health care provider if they are experiencing smoke exposure. Keep in mind that air quality can change rapidly at different times during the day due to wind shifts; therefore, it is important to monitor the smoke throughout the day in your area and make outdoor plans accordingly. Information on air quality and smoke can be found Air Now’s updated Fire and Smoke webpage at https://fire.airnow.gov which shows particulate matter data from permanent and temporary air monitors along with low-cost sensor data and also on www.sparetheair.com Wildfire smoke information can also be found on the District’s website at www.placerair.org Update: The APCO also included Current Fire Conditions (as of 5:18p): Loyalton Fire in Sierra County: 46,872 acres, 60% contained North Complex Fire in Plumas County: up to 16,241 acres, 5% contained August Complex Fire in Mendocino County: 117,365 acres, 6% contained LNU Lighting Complex Fire in Napa and Sonoma County: 219,067 acres and 7% contained SCU Lighting Complex Fire in Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra, San Joaquin, and Stanislaus County: 222,968 acres and 10% contained CZU August Lighting Fire in Santa Cruz and San Mateo County: up to 50,000 acres and 0% contained

It's turkey time! And by that we mean...you've probably seen a lot more turkeys running around Roseville. Both adult birds and newly hatched turkeys called poul...ts. The Roseville Police Department also includes animal control as one of our functions and we have two Animal Control Officers and one Animal Control Supervisor. Turkeys are considered wildlife under California law and our ACO’s cannot take any action to abate them by law. They will respond if there is an injured animal such as when they are struck by a vehicle. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife will not respond either to complaints regarding wild turkeys. They have published a web page and pamphlet which describes the need to prevent food sources for the birds or the use of motion activated sprinkler systems or dogs to deter their presence. The pamphlet does discuss the consideration and issuance of a depredation permit to allow the killing of turkeys by a property owner. This option is not available to Roseville residents as it is against municipal code to hunt, use air rifles, or bow hunt within the city limits because of the dangers to other residents. https://wildlife.ca.gov/Keep-Me-Wild/Wild-Turkey

Here's a locally-owned, downtown restaurant that quickly adjusted to the situation and is offering a extra-safe, food delivery or pickup service... and they have great food too! These businesses are laying off a lot of local workers and are trying hard to keep as many employed as possible, so please try to support these folks!

If you know of a person in a high-risk category that needs help with shopping or errands, Scott has a pretty big list of volunteers who are willing to help.

Today was a historic day for Roseville residents. Our city made an incredible purchase today of a $10.5M building that is 10 years old, has NEVER been occupied,... and sits right in the heart of our downtown! It's that beautiful 4-story building next to the Town Square! To put this into perspective, back in 2016, the city tried to buy it for $21M, but was turned down. The owners recently decided that they would indeed like to see the city control it into the future. Here's why this is such a blessing to all of us all: - Roseville Electric has not been able to expand its office space for 15 years, and has been saving for many years to build or lease additional office space, preferably in downtown so their many visitors don't have to drive way out to their PFE Rd location. As our city continues to grow, this will become increasingly important. - This purchase will be made with cash, from the Roseville Electric Fund intended for capital acquisition or one-time expenses, and NOT from operational expenses. As you'll see below, this investment will actually pay for itself relatively quickly. - This purchase will NOT increase electric rates. It will NOT come from any General Fund dollars or Measure B revenue. #CoolBeans - Roseville Electric plans to occupy at least the first floor, and currently plans to lease out the remainder of the building which is high-end office space and in high demand throughout the Sacramento region. At current lease rates, it's currently expected to pay for itself (reimburse the Electric Utility Fund) in as soon as 13 years. But even if it took longer, it's still an incredible opportunity. - This will bring life to this huge, 56,248 sqft building, and inject hundreds of new people into the downtown economy through the workers themselves and visitors coming to the building. It also finally helps solidify property values for other downtown property owners who knew that huge vacancy loomed over their property values. The city has a great write up about the building and the owners and other details. I'll add the link in the comments section below. (Note: if you're seeing this post as a shared post in a group, you will have to go back to this original "post" to see the comment) I took these photos today before and after our special council meeting.
