Front yard detention basin doing its thing. We designed this to capture runoff from all the downspouts on the home, sized for a typical storm event; it holds about 1100 gallons, percolated back to the ground instead of shunted off to the street. I expect it’ll be dry in about 24 hours. The Quercus lobata (Valley Oak) doesn’t mind the seasonal deep-watering one bit.

We’ve had a lot more projects in planning than in construction over the past year. Permitting agencies are working at half speed (at best), suppliers are experiencing materials shortages, and the COVID time warp has wrecked everyone’s attention spans. This design for one of our Atherton clients takes a very sculptural approach to creating joy-full outdoor living spaces we’re excited it’s regaining some traction!
