We are so excited to welcome Joanne Powell Wakelee to the VEP Board of Directors. Joanne, pictured pre-pandemic, working as a volunteer naturalist for Channel Islands National Park, says "I am thrilled and honored to join the VEP Board supporting students and teachers during these difficult times. My heart is still in the classroom after 36 years of teaching K-12 in bilingual education. My most recent assignment was as a Dual Language Teacher Specialist before retiring in 2016. The last few years, I tutored English through Laubach Literacy and worked as a naturalist for Channel Islands National Park until the shutdown due to the pandemic. Looking forward to serving with VEP as we move into 2021.

Thank you Dr. Lorelle Dawes, Principal Cabrillo Middle School for your generous support of Diverse Books! Dr. Dawes says, "It is important for all students to see themselves in books, posters, and stories at school, which hasn’t always been the case. It’s equally important for young people to know the narratives of others who might seem different at first, but who really share many similarities." Missing hugs as we head back to school? Want to thank an educator? Check out this idea from the Fredericks Family! Thank you Rob and Shannon Trani Fredericks for supporting Diverse books for Kids. And, thank you to their daughter Lauren for the beautiful art. "Please join us in supporting VEP. If you feel like giving educators a hug but you can’t because COVIDlet your money do the hugging. Trust me, teachers will feel loved and appreciated by receiving a mini grant that you ...helped sponsor." Rob and Shannon Fredericks https://www.facebook.com/donate/566988227301373/
