This year, it's particularly important to get your flu shot to protect yourself from the flu + lessen the potential burden on our health care system. On 9/30, V...entura County Public Health held their first flu clinic of the season and had a record turnout, providing flu shots to 700 residents at no-cost! VCEMS would like to highlight the important issue of safety in the Emergency Medical Services as we continue our daily recognition of EMS providers and EMS week.... Of course, encouraging safe practices in our response and care for the patients and the community we serve, but also safety for ourselves as prehospital providers. Safety Day encourages responders to focus on risk and prevention rather than possible negative outcomes, and aims to promote the advancement of safety measures for both the community and the profession. For example, VCEMS utilizes prehospital care data and statistics to evaluate and adjust specialty care systems, such as the countywide trauma system. Data related to cause and type of injury can help us develop specific education and prevention measures. In addition to specialty care system analysis and design, VCEMS takes an active role in responder wellness and critical incident stress management. Our CISM program administrator works with Fire/Law/Ambulance provider agencies and hospitals to ensure resources and help are available to personnel in need. If you’re a responder that needs assistance, please know that help is available for you 24/7. The Ventura County CISM Coordinator is available at 805-981-5306, and stress management resources (written material) are available through CISM International: https://www.criticalincidentstress.com/home

May 19-25 is EMS Week, and as part of this weeklong recognition, we will be honoring the hard work and dedication of our prehospital providers, agencies, and ho...spitals. Today, we would like to recognize those that dedicate themselves to the important job of education in the EMS field. Personnel are required to attend dozens of hours of education to maintain their certification/licensure, in addition to the hundreds of hours of intital training. EMS education is a huge part of our prehospital system, and we want to take the time to recognize our education providers. For an up-to-date list of approved EMS training and education providers, please visit the link below. http://www2.emsa.ca.gov//TrainingPrograms/GroupByTrainingP
