Visitors seeking to use Hollywood Beach this Memorial Day Weekend should be aware there be will no lifeguards on duty. The hiring process for lifeguards is ongoing, but slower than normal due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Hollywood Beach should be staffed with lifeguards by the end of June.

A Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 4 field training exercise will be conducted at Port Hueneme and Point Mugu now until Oct. 6. The Fabulous FOUR's... training activities will include simulated explosions and blank small arms fire that are crucial in certifying the battalion’s readiness for deployment to an expeditionary field environment. There are new parking hours for visitors who park at Kiddie Beach. There is no parking from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. We will be patrolling and issuing citations for those who park at Kiddie Beach between these hours.

Shout out to our pals at the Coast Guard for rescuing two kayakers near Anacapa Island. We are glad they were able to conduct this rescue and return the kayakers back to the main land safely!

We couldn’t be more proud of Ventura County Harbor Patrol Officer Eric Woodmansee. Leaders of the Ventura County Professional Peace Officers’ Association presented Officer Woodmansee with the first ever President’s Commendation. Officer Woodmansee was recognized for his response efforts to the tragic Conception dive boat fire. Utilizing Boat 15, a fire vessel shared with the Ventura County Fire Department, Officer Woodmansee bravely transported members of the Ventura County F...ire Department Engine Crew 54 through dark and foggy conditions at 4 a.m. on September 2, 2019. They were the first fire boat on scene and the second responder to arrive. In the words of VCPPOA leadership: Officer Woodmansee, thank you for your bravery that morning, and for continuing to serve not just the citizens of Ventura County, but as shown on September 2, 2019, those who were within your ability to help. Your skills were tested, your instincts proven and your courage was shown that morning.

Ventura County beaches including Hollywood, Silver Strand, and Kiddie beaches will be closed this holiday weekend from 5 a.m. on July 3 through July 6 at 5 a.m. to prevent crowding that results in the spread of COVID-19. Harbor waters, including the launch ramp, will be open for recreation and businesses will be open.

We would like to let everyone know the boat launch ramp is open and will be open throughout the July 4th weekend. We've included a link to the article below to let you know that there are some social distancing guidelines in place for your safety. Have a fun and safe weekend!

As a reminder, Fireworks by the Sea has been canceled this year.

A huge congrats to Paul Amaral, operator of TowBoat US Ventura. Paul was honored by the U.S. Coast Guard with one of its highest civilian awards for his heroism when responding to the fatal Conception dive boat fire. We appreciate your partnership here at the Channel Islands Harbor.

Sportfishing operations have the go-ahead to reopen.

Residents who visit Silver Strand, Hollywood, and Kiddie beaches and Harbor parks will have improved recreational opportunities and be able sit and lounge while practicing social distancing guidelines. Restrooms at all beaches and parks will remain open.

Recreational rental businesses at the Harbor received the go-ahead from the County of Ventura's Health Officer to operate!
