Firefighters from ME32, E35, E31 and SQ31 practice fire shelter deployment on a hillside off of Reino Road. Fire shelters are carried on the line gear of all firefighters working on wild land fire incidents and are an emergency and last ditch survival tool in the event firefighters are overrun by fire due to unexpected or rapidly changing fire conditions. Regular practice ensures that firefighters are proficient in the use and deployment of shelters in the event they are needed.

The Civic Center Fire Station #30 was dedicated 40 years ago on February 21, 1974! Fire station 30 went into operation January 25,1974. The 8,000 square foot building housed both staff offices, and an engine and truck company functions. This central location at 325 West Hillcrest Drive in the City of Thousand Oaks was made possible through the cooperation of the City of Thousand Oaks and the Janss Corp. The Janss Corp donated a number of acres and sold acres to the city. The... city provided the property to build the fire station it is located on at no cost and sold the land area for the parking lot for $8,000, which is the price the city paid the Janss Corp for the land. Later, the Fire Department purchased a small pie shape property on the east end of the parking lot to increase the parking lot. The interior of the structure has changed in a number of areas to meet the present needs. The exterior walls were unchanged until 2004 when the one bay east apparatus door opening was expanded to have two bay door openings. Station 30 was home for the Conejo Dispatch Center that dispatched Battalion 3 and Battalion 4 stations. In 1976, the Conejo Dispatch moved to a department wide communication center in Camarillo.
