Meet Kayla I’m a first year musical theatre performance major from San Diego! I’ve been involved in theatre for as long as I can remember but I’ve never been involved in something as impactful and outside the status quo as this. I remember touring colleges and seeing posters with the words Vagina Monologues plastered on the front. I laughed because the idea seemed pretty whack. But having worked with these wonderful women, promoting the idea of equality and empowerment ...and learning to love myself for who I am, I can admit it’s been a wonderfully whack time. This whack time of hard work and extreme dedication has helped birth a truly incredible show that I am honored to be a part of. See her in "My Vagina Was My Village" The Vagina Monologues grab 1-3. Meet Yaa My name is Yaa Mensah-Bonsu and I am a Third Year Biology Major. This is my second year being a part of vagina monologues and I have learned so much. Doing Coochie, and being a part of this show in general gives you a rare opportunity to tell the story of women and their struggles and their triumphs. It's through the individual telling of these stories that as a society we learn and grow, striving for the day that it is no longer necessary to proclaim one's right t...o wear a short skirt, or refuse the advance of a man. But until then, this show will continue to prosper adding voices to the cacophony that is already thousands strong. See her in "The Little Coochie Snorcher that Could" The Vagina Monologues feb 1-2. Meet RW Hey my name's RW. I'm a second year marketing major and I joined vagina monologues honestly on a whim. Thank God I decided to say screw it and audition because it's been such a growing experience. I've met amazing girls, learned to stand up for what I believe in, and generally just own my shit. I'm now seen as the angry liberal feminist at family holidays, but hey at least I'm not the "passive" aggressive racist uncle. But seriously this experience has been amazing and it only adds to it that it's for a life changing cause. Stay woke my friends See her in one of our original pieces in The Vagina Monologues feb1-2. Meet Elvan My name is Elvan and I am a Women’s Studies Major and LGBT Minor. I auditioned to the Vagina Monologues because I saw it as an opportunity to be part of a group of people that empowered women and trans people to talk and be comfortable in their own bodies. As a trans individual myself, I always felt like I did not have a platform to have open conversations about the different struggles that all women/trans/ and non-binary people face. Being part of this cast gave me that opportunity and I could not be more grateful for it. I am so excited for the show, and really excited to finally be around feminist individuals that are not afraid to speak their minds on these issues. Meet Daria Daria wanted to be in the Monologues to help spark change in the way people think about womanhood and the struggles women face. She wanted to be more comfortable with having tough conversations with people about problems that need to be addressed. During rehersals of the show, Daria learned that it is truly okay to be confident in your body without seeking attention or approval from anyone. Her piece "They Beat the Girl Out of My Boy" has brought her a new perspe...ctive on what truly defines a woman, and how hard some people have to work to be able to proudly say that they are in fact a woman. She hopes that people will use the messages within The Vagina Monologues to take a closer look at themselves, others, and society. Meet Lizzie I’m Lizzie and I’m a Senior majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies in Economics, Psychology, and Communications. I’ve always felt passionate about the double standard that is placed on women, which is why Vagina Monologues is so important to me. It became a medium of expression for me in a time when I would shy away from expressing my womanhood. Throughout the process, I have become comfortable and confident with talking about subjects I once felt ashamed about.... Being surrounded by such an inspiring and talented group of women has profoundly shaped my love and appreciation for womanhood in all its forms. This show has been a priceless experience that has helped me embrace ALL aspects of femininity, even if it means one has a hairy vaginawhich I don’t by the way, I get waxes on the regular. Meet Cami Hi there! I’m Cami and I am a senior majoring in journalism. I have always wanted to audition for a production of some sort in college, and after seeing The Vagina Monologues twice, I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of. I could not be more proud to be involved with this incredible organization, and more so, I am so proud to call this amazing cast of women my friends. I don’t typically burst into fits of rage and cussing too often, so performing my pi...ece Angry has been an absolute blast. It has taught me that sometimes the best way to express how angry you are is with your raw, unfiltered, and uncensored emotions. And to the bro who angrily shook his head at me in disgust as I was wearing a giant vagina costume and selling tickets to this show, I hope you decided to come buddy. I’m not ovaryacting when I say you could probably learn a thing or two about vaginas. See her in "Angry Vagina" The Vagina Monologues feb 1-2. Details on our page
Meet Laura My name is Laura Nguyen, and I am currently a double major in Film Production and Theatre Performance. To be honest, I just joined this show because I wanted another chance to perform. However, I’ve learned from this show to be comfortable in my own body, and appreciate the beauty of sex and sexual pleasures. Sex has always been a topic I’ve always been a little uncomfortable talking about or doing. But I guess now it’s something I can talk about with ease, and something I’ve been able to explore a lot more. I just feel a lot more free now (: Vagina Monologues feb 1-2. Details on our page
