Dear VCUSD families, As the Interim Superintendent, I have been listening to your concerns regarding our instructional options for this year and the challenge you face in choosing an option at this time. More specifically, you received communications from us regarding two options for this school year: a Distance Learning program that when allowed will transition to some degree of in-person learning, and a second option that provides for Distance Learning for the entire year ...- Virtual Learning Academy. After conferring with members of our leadership team, and after listening to multiple perspectives regarding the Virtual Learning Academy branch of Distance Learning, I have decided that we will not be implementing the Virtual Learning Academy branch at this time. Our collective efforts will be focused on implementing a singular, rigorous Distance Learning model for all students and teachers in our district. This eliminates any difficult decisions to be made by families at this time, as well as the challenge of implementing parallel programs within this District. As these extraordinary times continue to evolve and in accordance with the California Department of Education, California Department of Public Health, and Solano County Public Health, we will collaboratively develop options that at their foundation keeps everyone as safe and healthy as possible. These options include a hybrid model that allows for students to return to the classroom, as well as an option for families and staff to continue with Distance Learning. Families will then make a choice that is right for them, weighing risk using accurate information against clear instructional program options. As a result of this decision there is nothing more required from you at this time regardless of which option you selected, but do please ensure that your children show up online on Monday, August 17 for the first day of instruction. Information related to class assignments and distribution of technology will be sent from the school sites on or before August 14th via Parent Square and/or email. The partnership between home and school, as well your child’s daily online attendance is critically important to their success in these very challenging times. As always, please stay tuned to ParentSquare and the District website for ongoing communications from your school and this District. We welcome you to this new school year and know that we will continue to work for you in providing the best instructional programs possible for your children. We are stronger together. Be safe and be well. Mitchell A. Romao Interim Superintendent Vallejo City Unified School District vallejo.k12.ca.us

June 10, 2020 Dear Vallejo City Unified School District Parents, Families, and Staff: As we complete another year and see another group of distinguished students graduate from our District, I cannot help but feel a sense of accomplishment. Together, we have met many challenges and obstacles in order to reach this point. We had no idea when we said goodbye to our students on Friday, March 13th that our world would change so drastically. However, once students left our buildin...gs, and it was clear they were not going to return, many within our organization and throughout the community rose to meet the challenge. First, I would like to acknowledge and recognize our wonderful families. We understand that your child’s health and safety is your number one priority. Once your children were safely in your care, you were asked to become your child’s teacher. Although this may have been challenging at times, we hope you were able to connect with your child in a special way. You have been fully engaged and committed to the learning process. Next, I would like to give special recognition to our fabulous students. They are the reason we exist. It must have been tremendously difficult for them to leave their friends, teachers, and the routine of school. There is a special sound that comes from a classroom when students are sharing and talking. School staff have spoken about the buzz that can be heard from blocks away when students are laughing while playing during recess. Our students have dealt with this void in a variety of ways and hopefully this pandemic will make them appreciate the simple things of childhood. I wish all graduating seniors the best as they enter higher education or the job market. Finally, I want to thank all of the employees of the Vallejo City Unified School District. We are fully invested in providing positive educational and social emotional experiences to every student in our care. Our staff members step up each day in their respective roles to provide a safe environment in which students can excel. Today we celebrate the conclusion of another year. Many of you are concerned about Fall 2020, however this communication is designed to celebrate our families, staff, and students. I will send a separate communication about next year on Friday, June 12th. On behalf of the Governing Board, I thank you for trusting us with your most prized gift, your child. We will continue to work tirelessly to meet the needs of each student in our care. Sincerely, Adam Clark

We want to be sure that all students remain up to date on their immunizations, especially during this time of COVID-19. What we want to avoid is a resurgence of vaccine preventable diseases like measles and chickenpox in our community. All students will need to be current on the required vaccines for school before returning to campus. Most medical offices have resumed well child appointments, so please be sure to schedule them now and not wait until August. For those without insurance, our clinic will be open on a very limited basis by appointment only for two weeks in June. Families must wear face coverings and temperatures will be checked before entering the clinic. If you need an immunization appointment for your student please call 707-556-8921 ext. 56549 and leave a message. We will return your call. Thank you and be safe!
