Meet Officer David Medina! Officer Medina is currently an officer at Ventura College and has been an officer with our agency for almost 9 years. He was just recently awarded a commendation for going above and beyond his call of duty. While off-duty, Officer Medina came across a vehicle-versus-bicyclist collision in the City of Ventura. Without hesitation, Officer Medina stopped and assisted the involved parties, ensuring the scene was safe and emergency medical services were called. Officer Medina even reached out to the bicyclist’s husband to ensure he was notified of the incident. Great job, Officer Medina!
Happy Veterans Day! Today we are honoring all those who serve and have served in the United States Armed Forces, including some of our own officers themselves. We are all very grateful for each and every veteran. Thank you all! TOP: Lt. Huisenga (left) & Ofc. Abundo (right). BOTTOM: Ofc. Fernandez (left), Lt. Pallotto (center), & Ofc. Cermenio (right)
Today marks two years since the passing of Sergeant Ronald Lee Helus. From Ventura County Sheriff's Office: Sergeant Helus, a 29-year member of the Sheriff’s Office, was shot and killed after responding to an active shooter at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks. When he arrived, Sergeant Helus heard gunfire coming from inside the bar, which was occupied by nearly 200 college students. He immediately entered the bar and confronted the shooter. Sergeant Helus was severely wounded, and was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Ron’s heroic and swift actions undoubtedly saved many lives that night. Ron is survived by his wife, Karen, and son, Jordan. #sheriffvc #BL12 #4S3
Approximately 38% of our agency is comprised of military veterans. In honor of Veterans and Military Families month in November, the VCCCD Police Department has commissioned its first-ever commemorative Veterans Patch. The patches are the same shape and size of the official VCCCD Police Department patch. The proceeds from this patch will be used to acquire safety equipment for our officers. Veterans Patches can be purchased for $12 each. We have a very limited number of patches available. Anyone interested in purchasing a patch should contact Officer Alex Abundo via email at [email protected].
We recently learned about Trey Elliott, a 7-year-old boy from Oklahoma, who has been supporting and praying with local officers amidst waves of civil unrest. Trey has asked for police department patches from every city across the US for Christmas, and we are more than happy to help Santa fulfill that difficult task! You got another patch heading your way, Brittany! #beliketrey
