Our siblings have been on an ULP strike against ASARCO for months now, and they need our support more than ever. Delegates at the first-ever District 4 Rapid Re...sponse conference in New York took time today to send a message of solidarity and strength. Share this video to show you’re in this fight with them, and that together, we’ll last one day longer than the company. (P.S. sign this solidarity pledge, too! http://usw.to/36g ) #OneDayLonger #1u See more

The influence of a mother, or those that fill the role of mother, in the lives of their children is beyond calculation. The phrase "a working mom is redundant" ...is so true! Today, Rich Trumka will be testifying on behalf of H.R. 2474, The Protecting the Right to Organize Act, (PRO Act). This legislation is imperative to union membe...rs as it protects the right to join a union by (1) bolstering remedies and punishing violations of workers’ rights (2) strengthening workers’ right to stand together and negotiate for better working conditions; and (3) restoring fairness to an economy that is rigged against workers. Click here http://usw.to/PROActFact to get the facts on this important legislation and see President Gerard’s letter of support http://usw.to/PROActLWG. #USWUnity #1u See more

"My union recognizes that my time is precious for it's all I have. Knowing that I am part of the USW, that someone has my back at work, makes it so I can enjoy ...life with my family. There is a Modest Mouse song and one of the lyrics that resonates with me always is, "if I had a nickel for every damn dime I'd have half the time." Unions fight for every dime." The capitalist rulers of this country have done an excellent job of brainwashing a sizeable cohort of the working class Lots of my brothers and sisters (especia...lly my brothers) have been convinced that the main threat to their freedom is Black athletes carrying out civil rights protests and legislatures putting common sense restrictions on gun ownership (restrictions that other countries do routinely) Meanwhile, unions are all but extinct in this country - less than 34% of the public sector workforce has a union, and an anemic 6% of private sector workers are unionized. Most American workers under 50 have never worked union and the vast majority of workers - 19 out of 20 - have no rights at work that a boss is bound to respect This very year the Supreme Court is gutting what's left of union rights in this country Meanwhile, on my Facebook feed I see union members frothing at the mouth about players refusing to stand for the national anthem and "gun rights" Like a magician, the powers that be have used misdirection and have used it well - while you're "boycotting football" and sending money to the National Rifle Association, they are picking your pockets and gutting your rights at the workplace Don't be a sucker - stay focused on your REAL enemies

I have heard some very disturbing developments are coming out of Rodeo, ca. Did you guys loose union leadership or something? I'm confused. The two items that they came home with last contract, patting themselves on the back. How's PFQ and FATIGUE working out for ya? Brothers and Sisters, don't let the company continue to ignore our creed and the USW's contract. Those of us that saw the handwriting on the wall tried to tell you. Now no Op 1 position. 4-5 qualifications before compensation. Where's that Solidarity? Where's that Organizing? Where's the stewardship? #nextgeneration #usw A wake up call from a enlighted retired from plant, but, a proud member of USW FOREVER. #SOAR

This may look like your standard throwback, but we're sharing it because it shows how working people who live in close proximity to union members organize becau...se they see first-hand the benefits of having a union. Like you can see on the back of the picture, in 1974 health care workers at Francis A. Bell Memorial Hospital who often provided care for Steelworkers at Republic Mine organized a union. How many of you have friends and family who want a union where they work? BTW, if you're a health care worker, click here to register for the upcoming Health Care Workers Conference where there will be a workshop on health care labor history: usw.org/hcwconference.

The U.S. Senate is expected to vote on their version of the tax plan sometime this week. Heads up...this one is just as bad as the House bill that passed before... the holiday. Working people across the country have suffered from the devastating effects of poorly negotiated and enforced trade agreements like NAFTA. Countless plants hav...e closed and millions of manufacturing jobs have been moved overseas because of a trade model that puts investors and profits over the needs of families and communities. Today, as renegotiations begin in Washington D.C., we demand that the mistakes of the past be corrected and a new deal reflect the interests of working families, not global corporations. #USWWorks See more
