Martin Karlinsky '76 credits USF with laying the groundwork for his 45-year distinguished career as a trial lawyer and litigator. Grateful for the impact the law school had on his life, Karlinsky, together with his wife Christine Ruppert, has designated a generous future gift to the USF School of Law in their trust. Karlinsky hopes that the legacy gift will "perpetuate the experience that I had at USF and further students’ interest in the study of constitutional law and trial advocacy." A message to our community from University President Paul J. Fitzgerald, S.J.:
USF Magazine feature: Where do we go from here? Less than a year ago, rent for a San Francisco one-bedroom apartment could be as high as $5,000 a month if you... could find one. Fast forward to the end of 2020, and you’ll find special deals on apartments: First month free! The pandemic has changed San Francisco, along with the nation. But will the change be lasting? Will the need for more housing a pre-pandemic problem still be a factor? As we head into a new decade, we wondered: What is San Francisco’s future? Three city leaders with USF ties offered their thoughts about the direction of the city. More at USF Magazine: http://bit.ly/2XetAWE

Today, President Fitzgerald and Interim Provost Cannon informed the university community that given the priorities of safety and health, university leadership h...as decided that the spring 2021 semester will be primarily remote. This follows the latest guidance from the San Francisco Department of Public Health for institutions of higher education, which tells us we must continue to minimize in-person interactions as much as possible, and wherever possible continue remote or virtual operations. The spring semester will serve as a bridge to reopening in fall 2021 when we anticipate the release of a safe and widely available vaccine. We will continue to align our decision-making with the current scientific evidence regarding safety and to follow the guidelines provided by the SFDPH. At the same time, we must strengthen our resilience in campus operations and continue to focus on bringing our community back together. USF will continue to provide essential housing support for winter intersession and the spring semester, and we will be sending regular community updates about what is happening on campus and in our classrooms. We thank our university community members for their flexibility, for their collaboration, for their resilience, and for all the work they have done to meet these many challenges.
