We're here now. Need a good morning read? Or maybe a #morningafter read? Dr. RS Abr shows that DMPA may be able to suppress ovulation and be considered as #emergencycontraception or #EC! More research needed to confirm, but cool finding! #linkinbio https://authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S2590151620300332

You can't call yourself a scientist unless you fundamentally believe in the scientific process. Thus, while I couldn't be a @malecontraception trial participant, I could at least get involved in AstraZeneca's #covid19vaccine trial to get a better sense of what our participants go through and what they worry about with respect to experimental therapeutics. In this trial, there is a 2:1 odds of receiving active #vaccine versus #placebo, and participating in a trial does not exclude you from receiving an FDA approved vaccine in the future. We know that when it comes to #abortion, it's #herbodyherchoice, but what were some of the landmark #scotus rulings that prioritized a woman's right to privacy and get subsequent right to obtain an abortion without consent from or having to notify her male partner? #reproductiverights #reproductiveagency @plannedparenthood @men4choice @prochoice_prowomen

Happy birthday Dr. Reissner! Sorry we can't be celebrating with you, but at least we can have some gluten-free @sprinklescupcakes! Hope this next year is the best ever for you.

ABSTRACTS ARE DUE for @acog_org's Annual Clinical & Scientific Meeting on OCTOBER 26TH, y'all! Let's push, get our research in, get accepted, then get our #covidvacccine so we can hang out in DC, April 2021! @keckschoolusc, @uscobgynres, @uscfamilyplanning, and @theemergelab represent! Good times working on and reviewing abstracts with @hana_the_obgyn, @heyy_rana, @usc_aws, & @sglee_12! Can only hope that @syembarakzai through sheer unassisted grit and intellect of his own will be able to join us. @surface, this keyboard isn't going to last much longer...Please send backup. Thnx. #obgynlife #academiclife

From our #workfamily to yours, Happy Thanksgiving. #Thankful this year that we still have the right to choose and thankful to constantly be around those who've chosen to continuously protect that right. #familyvalues

Hey @andrew.vallejo! How soon can women who have recently given birth get pregnant again? AKA what's the earliest time a patient can ovulate after delivering a baby? In this sample of 22 postpartum, non breastfeeding women the mean time to #ovulation was 45 days, with no ovulations detected before 25 days after delivery! This speaks to the importance of ensuring that women receive #postpartumcontraception before their 6-week postpartum visit. Btw, welcome to your #familyplanningrotation! #ComplexContraception

While it's important to talk to patients about the @fda blackbox warning on #DMPA or #depoprovera, we have much more evidence reassuring us that the decreases in bone mineral density are reversible and even if present at the time of menopause due to long term use, will reach a plateau that even non-users reach during menopause. Retrospective studies that link DMPA use to fractures don't account for the baseline fracture risk of patients who elect to use DMPA, such that extrapolations from these data are flawed. The benefits of pregnancy prevention, and arguably the management of anemia that might otherwise lead to blood transfusions, should outweigh the risks of such bone loss. Bone mineral density assessments #DXA and bisphosphonates are not indicated in premenopausal women using DMPA. #ComplexContraception

Does getting an #IUD hurt? Check out these words from our local expert, Dr. @hana_the_obgyn, captured by Allie Volpe at @thepapergown. https://thepapergown.zocdoc.com/does-getting-an-iud-hurt/

As a new dad, I'm reminded even more of the need for our work in #familyplanning that ensures that individuals are able to time their pregnancies and raise children under the circumstances that are best for them. This one couldn't have come at a better time -- her neck stabilized just in time to join us for the Society of Family Planning's annual meeting going on this weekend. Posters live from @rosejpmd/@theemergelab and on-demand sessions from @malecontraception. Let's go!

We need more people advocating for #abortionaccess and protecting the communities who are disproportionately impacted by restrictions. Your voice, along with the majority of Americans who support reproductive health care access, can help stop these dangerous attacks. Sign this @prhdocs petition rejecting Judge Amy Coney Barrett. #linkinbio https://secure.everyaction.com/R_rmPjaxQkCZzmlKrvTe6A2

Pumped to support @uscrhpc, a new source of #reproductivehealth experience and evidence, centered on and supportive of persons of color. Intersectional disparities in the reproductive health of our Los Angeles community need to be highlighted if we're to begin making any real change. The time is now. Follow @uscrhpc and spread the word about their upcoming event with our #familyplanningfellow, Dr. Katrina Heyrana representing @uscfamilyplanning.

Taken from her Dissent from Gonzales vs Carhart (2007) regarding the legality of so-called partial birth abortion: "The act, and the court’s defense of it, cannot be understood as anything other than an effort to chip away at a right declared again and again by this court and with increasing comprehension of its centrality to women’s lives." Today we lost one of our most unflinching advocates and SHEroes. May her words be adopted and strengthens but the voices of future generations. #rbg #notoriousrbg #riprbg
