On Saturday, September 6th, USA Fitness gym members Lynn and Duffy Walton, along with the New Basin Blues Running Club held their annual High School Cross-Country Shoe giveaway program at A Runner's Circle shoe store near Griffith Park. The cross country teams from Monroe HS, Reseda HS, Cesar Chavez HS and Belmont HS participated in the run, followed by... breakfast and then each student athlete was provided with a new pair of running shoes. The total number of participants was 120 kids. This is a new record number of shoes provided for the 15 year old program founded by Duffy Walton in 1999 to provide shoes to HS X/C teams from low income neighborhoods. "We want to show these kids that they are on the right track in being runners. There are enough negative influences all around them, so some positive reinforcement seems appropriate.
