The 4th Trimester that almost no one talks about. It's the weirdest transition...one I'm learning to love more and more. It's the liminal phase when the summer retreats and fall makes it's entrance. A grief that the hot delicious gaze of the sun is leaving (a funny sense of abandonment...) And a softer, dank embrace is starting to embrace you. Pressing your nose into it's pungent moss...deathly intoxicating.... You may find yourself holding your breath a lot. At least I do. And then softening with every exhale. It's like sucking on a caramel hard candy with a liquid coffee center. Your soft parts swirl around some sweetness and then you're stung by sharp cracks and then a bit of bitter warmth creeps In. Some times It's euphoric and sometimes it's excruciating. Just when you relax and you're sure you like It, something tugs and rips you open. It's an experience that leaves you cracked open, gasping for breath, with tears rolling down your face. Not sure if you're dying or being born again. Are they the same thing? You feel wretchedly awkward and new and uncertain and simultaneously the most powerful and YOU that you've ever been. It's bewildering. Should you celebrate or cry? Probably both All you can do is remain on your knees, it's that exquisite. There might be a roaring party to welcome your becoming. Or this time it might be quiet and fairly solo, a tad lonely, but just right. Your expectations aren't really met...they never really are. You're either honestly a little disappointed or dumbfounded. Maybe a little of both. And it's all somehow so...perfect. 4th trimester - you grieve who you were and welcome who you are. Welcome to the world, little one. There will be other re-births, all in perfect time. There's no way it should be or is supposed to go. You are everything you've always been seeking. Go suckle at your own breast. Now's the time for nourishment. A selfish, tender turning inward to nurse every inch of this new YOU. Loving every inch of this new you. I love you. See more
