Fabulous news! UPLA has received a $20,000 grant from the William I. Smith Foundation. The award is the largest grant in our organization’s history. UPLA will use the award to expand our Without Limits math tutoring program. The tutoring program will hire additional paid staff, will add a second day of tutoring each week (Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings) and will add English reading and writing help along with the math tutoring. In addition, the grant will pro...vide funds to hire a professional educator to help us create effective teaching and assessment tools for the program. Grant funds will support the expanded program for one year. During that year the UPLA Board will continue to work to recruit additional Member/Owners making monthly recurring donations. A larger donor base will provide the sustainable funding the will allow the expanded Without Limits program to continue after the year of grant funding ends. See more

Our field trip at Bolsa Chica Wetlands with the Sierra Club. We saw baby sharks and caterpillars and learned about the migratory birds that stop by Huntington Beach.

In a few weeks, the Without Limits Math & Study Center will welcome back old and new students for the spring semester of 2016 with new curriculums and a revamped space. Please join us January 10th at 12:00 pm for lunch to give the downstairs a makeover. We appreciate all the help in fostering childhood education within our community. For any questions regarding tasks or supplies, please contact Lauren Brown who will be available at the church on Wednesday morning.
