Today, the Upland Police Department Traffic Unit, along with our partners from the Rialto Traffic and El Monte Traffic units, hosted the first Ride To Live motorcycle training course. This course is designed to offer riders of all experience levels an opportunity to hone their skills in clutch-throttle manipulation, sight placement while making slow turning movements, counter steering drills, and low speed precision maneuvering. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. #OTS #RideToLivr #MotorcycleSafety #rialtopd

On 9/6/2020 at about 0127 Hours, UPD responded to the intersection of Arrow Hwy. and San Bernardino Road to investigate a traffic collision. Through our investigation, it was learned that Sammy Arvizu, 30, was driving the vehicle while under the influence and collided into a curb and light pole. The impact ripped the rear passenger door off, which caused two passengers, who were not wearing seatbelts, to be ejected from the vehicle. A female adult was pronounced dead at the s...cene and two other passengers sustained severe injuries. The Patrol Division and Traffic Unit conducted a very detailed investigation. Through that investigation, it was learned Arvizu had a prior DUI conviction where he was made aware of the fatality rate for DUI’s. The Traffic Unit obtained a DUI Watson Murder filling and a warrant was issued for Arvizu’s arrest. Within two hours, the SIU Team had Arvizu in custody. Arvizu was booked at WVDC and is currently held on a $1,100,000 bail for Murder & DUI. #don’tdrinkanddrive #DUIkills #UPD #SIU #Trafficbureau #MADD #OTS See more
