For every thing there is a season.
Catastrophe Theory? Second Law of Thermodynamics? Either way finding a book on bifurcation like this in a donation box is hilarious.
Come celebrate Anthropology Days with us with 20% off all books in our anthropology, archeology, near eastern, folklore, linguistics, and cultural and critical studies sections, through Saturday the 18th. Also join us this Wednesday 2/19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for a talk from archaeologist Mitchell Allen. Dr. Allen is a research associate at the archaeological research facility UC Berkeley and at the Smithsonian Institution. He will be discussing his previously unpublished Helmand Sistan Project, a 1970s survey and excavation in Afghanistan.

Introducing our new literature subsection: Literary Science Fiction and Fantasy. This will be curated by myself. It's still in a seminal state but will continue to grow. And of course this categorization may lead to some debate, but such debate isn't at all new to genre fiction. Come check it out. -Kevin
This holiday season, Santa isn't the only one who will know if you've been naughty or nice. Dante will be making his usual rounds through the inferno, purgatory, and paradise, but for now he's watching over our poetry section. Please note that our store will be closing at 4pm on Christmas Eve (the 24th) and closed on Christmas day. We will also be closing at 4pm on New Year's Eve (the 31st). Happy holidays!
Did you know that our very own Nancy MacKay is also an editor? We have copies of the latest book she's edited by Marella Hoffman in stock. Nancy writes, "I'm very excited that University Press Books is carrying Practicing Oral History Among Refugees and Host Communities. As editor of Routledge's Practicing Oral History series, I can vouch that Marella has contributed skill, life experience and a passionate call for social justice among newly formed communities of refugees and their hosts, with examples from around the world."
Staff Picks are here! We have a full range of literature and academia on display representing the broad interests of the wonderful characters who work at your local independent UPB. Come take a look and find something new to try.
Coming next week, we will have Staff Picks on display. Get to know the sometimes quaint and eclectic tastes of your local booksellers. We may even be able to point out some gems you didn't expect from our store.
Be sure to stop by later today as Benjamin Griffin, Associate Editor of the Mark Twain Project at UC Berkeley's Bancroft Library, discusses his new book. In it, Mark Twain gives a (sometimes semi-fictionalized) account of his time serving in the civil war.
