Welcome to a New Year! May 2018 be a great year for all! May we listen more intently to Spirit urging us forward and onward so that January, is a launching point for change, as we embrace a higher vision for living. This new year is an opportunity to prepare the soil of our minds that will take hold and grow. During our Burning Bowl Ceremony, we realized that a Denial negates the reality of an untruth, while an Affirmation avows a new reality based on Truth. We looked back wi...th appreciation, depreciation, with release and gratitude for all that has served us. We let go and let God be God in us...as us. With an open heart and mind, let us begin to see new possibilities that are right in front of us. I see you filled with love and joy for a peaceful and prosperous New Year. Remember that any challenge, issue or problem is temporary. God is eternal. God's love is unconditional. God is always here, within each one of us. As my friend: the late Rev. Janet Manning used to say to me: May the spirit of the Lord go before you, making your way safe, secure and successful! Take time in this New Year to experience the light within you, knowing that it is God guiding and leading you forward and onward. God bless us all, Rev. Mary --From Jan Phillips' poetry book: "There Are Burning Bushes Everywhere:" Farewell to arms, to terror, and crimes against nature. Farewell to half-truths, deception, political subterfuge. Farewell to jealousy, fear, pressure to behave this way or that. Farewell to pettiness of logic and laughter, to wishing it were otherwise, to pretty soon, any day now, almost ready. Hello to yes, to this is the time. Hello to I deserve this, I make all things new. Hello to abundance begins with myself, to this is my one life, to these are my holy and precious hours. Hello to saying what is true, knowing what is mine. Hello to this is what I was called to do. This is why I came. Sixty six times I have stood at this threshold, I have seen this happen: there is a door, a light in the distance, a slight trembling in my legs, the sound of the unknown, and always the question: Do you mean it this time? Are you coming?

A Wonderful Journey The dramatic story of the birth of Jesus is a wonderful story of the Hero's Journey that can inspire our own journey. Every character in the story is challenged to move beyond the ordinary - out of their comfort zones - in order to take part in something extraordinary. Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, each called to a journey filled with both danger and promise.... We too experience tension between motivation and trepidation as our own callings excite our passion and raise our fears. The invitation to discover a deeper dimension of ourselves is neither devoid of risk nor certain in outcome. Jesus' life and teachings are a testimony to the new life that is seeded in each one of us. It also testifies to spiritual life being a journey. As much as we would like Christ awareness to be handed in a sudden birth of enlightenment, for most of us it seems to come at the end of a journey. May this story of old and this Season of remembering the Christ encourage you to listen attentively and deeply to Spirit's call. Like the characters in the Nativity it really comes down to being willing to just play your part in the story. May you have the courage and faith to follow the Divine Plan for your life. Do not be disillusioned by appearances. The night may be long, dark and cold and the odds of success may seem remote but the promise of extraordinary possibilities will be fulfilled as you remain willing to stay the course. Your willingness to move forward, joined with God's promise will surely magnify your soul and lead you to the scene of new life where True Joy will be found in the manger of your own heart. Enjoy the wonderful journey you are on! Merry Christmas and God bless us, everyone! Rev. Mary

Keep a Grateful Heart There is so much for which to be grateful. During the month of November, we have an opportunity to look around us and deeply within our souls, for all of God's good! Our Master Teacher gave us a message of here and now when he prayed "give us this day our daily bread," reminding us that our good is not in a future time, but right here, right now. That surely is something to hold in our hearts and thoughts.... This is the Truth. It is Absolute, unchanging and eternal. Should we become confused or challenged, let us remember we do not need to live in a state of confusion, but in a consciousness of eternal Truth, in gratitude. As we absorb Truth, we learn to become more grateful for the freedom to choose thoughts that transform our lives, thoughts of gratitude and praise for God's good in our lives now. Thanksgiving Day is a wonderful reminder to consider all the blessings we have in our lives. Ideally, Thanksgiving can be cultivated as an ongoing state of mind. All it takes is to practice pausing occasionally each day to recall our personal blessings - and say thank you to others. Gratitude is an open connection to Spirit with love. Without gratitude, our thoughts cannot reach much altitude or get very high. Whenever my awareness is focused on lack or limitation, I am reminded of Unity co-founder Charles Fillmore's statement: "poverty is a sin." We learn that the most efficient elevator for our thoughts and attitude is to list our blessings: health, love, peace, joy, friendship, family, nature - you name it! Soon, we find that keeping a grateful heart lifts our attitude and cultivates a prosperity consciousness. I invite you to thank someone each day this month for the blessings they have offered you! You will find that your heart is overflowing with blessings - right here and now! "Jesus always returned thanks to the Father before the result of his work became visible." - Myrtle Fillmore I give thanks to all of you! Rev. Mary

I'm really excited about Rev. Jim Lee coming to Unity of Roseville on March 5, 2017 for our Sunday service & a workshop! Usually he gives the workshops on a "love offering" basis - and although we don't have the subject of his workshop yet - you can bet that it will be an excellent one. I guess I'm partial to Rev. Jim - I was his executive secretary when we were at Christ Unity for all those years. And I had the opportunity to help him gather the notes and make the workbook... handouts for his classes. I always felt really "prayed up" when I was working on his materials for classes and workshops. So, YES - I'm looking forward to this visit to OUR church, Unity of Roseville! Hope to see you there, too. Lovingly, Your Prayer Chaplain, Bobbie Spivey https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000010113522

Here we are in February - and more than sending Valentine greetings to our loved ones - let's consider sending out loving thoughts to everyone in the whole world. I remember seeing one of the signs held by a person in one of our recent gatherings that was shown on TV - the sign said: "Love Trump's Hate". I don't remember if it had the apostrophe or not. Either way, it works. It got me thinking that we really need to re-center all our thoughts so that we can actually visual...ize wrapping the world in a "love blanket". Can you imagine how that might feel? Do you want to give it a try, with me? There are many guru's that I follow online - many of them send me daily messages or a once-in-awhile heart-felt note of encouragement or enlightenment. What I noticed this last month was that almost everyone of them sent messages that awakened my heart to allow room for expanding a loving attitude toward my fellow man - even to those who were making noises that were not from a loving nature. Our world really needs positive messages to be broadcast from as many of us as are able to STAY POSITIVE in the face of all the negativity. So, even if you are not on the internet with a group of email followers - you can still "broadcast" your heartfelt blessing thoughts with your own mind. Open to the truth of your own being. You were created to be loving and responsive to the beauty all around us. You were created to feel the healing Christ Light of Love stirring within your heart. You were created to Be the Light - to become one of the sparkling facets of God's healing energy for the world. Join me and see the world and each individual in it through the Eyes of Love.... (there's a 70's song about that... how many of you can hum it? - just wondering, because I'm hearing it in my mind right now.) Love and Healing Blessings, Bobbie Spivey Your Prayer Chaplain Coordinator

Rev. Mary gave us an opportunity to listen again to some of the powerful statements Martin Luther King Jr. shared with the world over the brief time he was a part of the American Scene. His legacy has only grown over time, as we hear again the truths that he spoke so eloquently. The music, too, was a beautiful blend of patriotic and inspirational melodies. During today's service, we had an opportunity to hold a piece of white stone from a quarry outside Jerusalem. It's sig...nificance in setting new pathways for a new year was shared with us when Rev. Mary spoke of the ceremony for freeing a slave, and allowing them to choose and write upon a white stone their new name. The ceremony, in turn for us, was allowing us to choose and write our own new direction or new pathway on a white stone. Without being political - I wanted to share with you that my choice involves allowing my heart to remain open to be receptive to the truth that may be hidden behind all the noisy words that we hear. We ARE able to discern the truth when we listen through our hearts. As prayer chaplains we learn to drop from our head where our mind chatters constantly - drop into our heart space, where peace prevails and love and truth can be felt. It is a good practice - even when you are not a prayer chaplain. Have a lovely rest of the day and feel God's loving energy vibrate throughout your heart, soul and mind. You will be hearing the truth right forth - even from those you least expect it. Lovingly, Your Unity of Roseville Prayer Chaplain Bobbie Spivey
