Committed to making life better, Oportun is building a community of employees, partners, and customers who support each other on the path to new opportunities, because they believe that when we work together, we can make life better. This holiday season, Oportun locally partnered with United Way of San Diego County to adopt a local family and provide them with a Thanksgiving meal and holiday gifts.

The tourism and hospitality industries have been decimated by the pandemic and the impact has been severe. Last week, more than 950 families received dinners, t...oys, gifts, and a tremendous amount of cheer to help ring in the holiday season -- all arranged by the United Way of San Diego County and San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council through their Unions United partnership. All items were donated by their fellow workers across San Diego and Imperial Counties. Over 100 volunteers from local unions came together at Petco Park to give back to pre-selected union and community families who were the most in need. The team's efforts garnered some fantastic coverage for all partners, including Mayor Todd Gloria who volunteered at the event as well. NAHJ San Diego/Tijuana NAHJ San Diego-Tijuana

For over three decades the more than 200,000 working families of the San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council have partnered with United Way of San Diego County to execute a Food & Toy Donation drive to assist workers and community members struggling to make ends meet. This year, the pandemic has dramatically increased the number of families in need. The tourism and hospitality industries have been decimated by the pandemic - and the impact has been severe. To meet the need, union teachers, firefighters, grocery workers, nurses, construction workers, caregivers and more have increased their donations in partnership with United Way of San Diego County to help more families than ever before.

Higgs Fletcher & Mack LLP is committed to making a difference inside and outside of the courtroom, and we are so grateful for all the support they have provided this holiday season! Not only did they support our Toy Drive, they adopted two City Heights Families linked to the City Heights CDC and the Karen Organization of San Diego, while donating gift cards to Every Student, Every Family school sites for families! The adverse impacts of the #digitaldivide in our region caused by the #COVID19 pandemic are far-reaching. Alongside the Lucky Duck Foundation and United Way of ...San Diego County we were able to support San Diego Continuing Education’s distribution of more than 1,150 laptops to students in need, but the disparities still exist. "Despite these efforts, a big technological divide persists, so additional support is needed from the community," shared SDCE president Carlos Osvaldo Cortez in The American Association of Community Colleges’ blog.
