Farmers' markets are essential businesses, which means you will still have access to the freshest produce as we will remain OPEN during the new shelter in place order. The health and safety of our community is always our top priority, and we will continue to enforce the social distancing protocols detailed on our website at pcfma.link/safety. Thank you for your ongoing support of local farmers, see you this weekend! #pcfma

Due to air quality concerns, our farmers' market will unfortunately be CLOSED tomorrow, Saturday September 12th. In the meantime, you can visit the nearby Irvington Farmers' Market on Sunday, 9am-2pm. We plan to reopen as usual next Saturday September 19th. The last few weeks have presented unthinkable challenges for many of our vendors, as some have experienced crop loss, fire damages, and evacuation orders, all in the midst of a pandemic. For farmers, even a single missed market can significantly impact business; the decision to close the market is not made lightly. The health & safety of our community, vendors, and staff is always our top priority, please try to stay indoors and avoid smoke inhalation if you can and keep each other in your positive thoughts

Have you heard about Market Match? Market Match is a program that allows CalFresh recipients to extend their budgets in the farmers' markets for the purchase of fruits and vegetables by MATCHING up to $10 of their EBT allowance, essentially DOUBLING their benefits. This means more fresh produce on families' tables, and more money being spent locally to help sustain small farms. In 2019, Alameda County received a total of over $45,822 in Market Match at the PCFMA farmers' m...arkets, extending to more than 750 households. This year, we have already eclipsed these numbers - with more than 592 families already spending over $26,704 in Market Match dollars at their local markets since the start of the year. With millions of Americans still out of work and relying on CalFresh EBT to provide for their households, Market Match will continue to play an essential role in our community members lives. You can learn more and help support this program at https://pcfma.link/Donate See more

Happy Fourth of July!! Stop by the market for some tasty berries Here is a simple recipe for some cool pops! 1 basket of ripe red or blue fruit (strawberries, raspberries, cherries, blueberries or blackberries) 1 liter of coconut water 1 stevia leaf, chopped (optional)... 6 popsicle molds Place trimmed or pitted fruit in a blender. Cover the fruit with coconut water, so the spaces between the fruits are filled with liquid. Add stevia (optional). Puree until smooth, then spoon puree into the top of the pop mold. The mixture will set quickly, because of the pectin in the berries, so work quickly! Fill the rest of the pop mold with a slow pour of coconut water, and your colors should stay separated. Freeze and enjoy!
