New Adult Study Kicks off this Sunday June 20 at 11:30 am on ZOOM. What better way is there to celebrate Juneteenth than diving into some time of learning and growth. For the ZOOM link please private message us or email the church office. Join our Adult Sunday School class for: How to Fight Racism: Courageous Christianity and the Journey Toward Racial Justice... By Jemar Tisby Join us on Zoom or by phone Sunday mornings at 11:30am June 20th thru September 5th (no class on July 11th or August 15th) How to Fight Racism is a handbook for pursuing racial justice with hands-on suggestions bolstered by real-world examples of change. Tisby offers an array of actionable items to confront racism in our relationships and in everyday life through a simple framework--the A.R.C. Of Racial Justice--that helps readers consistently interrogate their own actions and maintain a consistent posture of anti-racist action. This book is for anyone who believes it is time to stop compromising with racism and courageously confront it. Tisby roots the ultimate solution to racism in the Christian faith as we embrace the implications of what Jesus taught his followers. Readers of the book will come away with a clear model for how to think about race in productive ways and a compelling call to dismantle a social hierarchy long stratified by skin color. If you’d like to purchase the book and optional study guide, you can find them here: Hardcover (book), Paperback (Study Guide) and eBooks available at www.cokesbury.com Hardcover (book), Paperback (Study Guide) and Kindle versions available at www.amazon.com What happens during Adult Sunday School book study sessions? - We gather on Sunday mornings via Zoom (link and other details will be included in the weekly email from WUMC). You can also join via phone. If in person meetings resume, we will continue to have a Zoom option as well. - Before the session, participants read a portion of the book for each week’s discussion. If you don’t have time to read the book, please join us anyway! - We view a 15-30 minute video, usually presented by the book’s author. - Participants are invited to answer discussion questions or share comments on the content of the video or book material. - We often work to connect the content we read/view with what is happening in the world around us. We look for what God is calling us to do today through our understanding of the gospel. - Sessions last about an hour and a half.
