HOME IS WHERE THE ART IS ----------------------------------- Walking around the hospital at midnight Passing the Art For Recovery office. The writing on the walls with quotes.... Quotes by people I know. Quotes by me. Pictures on the walls. Tiny. It is part of a quilt. The Fabric of life. I wander the hallways in the shadows. AFR lurking in the shadows. Who else experiences the art, the words in the midnight hour? The other side of midnight. A familiar port in the sea of a hospital. I am represented. I am really there. Let me show you. I can walk by myself, pushing the IV pole, the walker. I want you to know about the couch. We all take a turn. It was there for me, Govinder, Emerald, everyone at one time or another. A safe place to rest in a big cold hospital. I have a home. It is home. Home is where the heart is. Home is where the ART is. "Once you've heard the words: 'You have cancer,' there's something different about being able to talk about it with someone who's experienced the same thing. At open art studio I've had to try to open up & spread my wings & try to create art... We always joke that people who come to Art for Recovery never leave. I don't think that they'd ever be able to get rid of me. Art truly has given me a voice. It's connected to your spirit & your soul. Art's power is amazing." - Hideka ...[UCSF Art for Recovery cancer patient] WE’RE OFFICIALLY OVER HALFWAY TO OUR END-OF-YEAR GOAL!!! Thanks to everyone who’s donated so far. Enjoy this musical meditation by Patrice Haan, helaing harpist with UCSF Art for Recovery.
This piece is about movement; how I transition from one feeling to the next, one season to the next. I kept the center the lightest to represent the possibilities before me- the colors, patterns, and relationships I have yet to see. Living with cancer is about finding yourself in the midst of profound physical and emotional turmoil. To move forward meaningfully, I have had to find places where I can rest and feel grounded. Art for Recovery is such a place. -Manisha Dayal #artsaveslives #arttherapy #artforrecovery #UCSF #ucsfmedicalcenter #cancer
