Move out season is officially upon us in Isla Vista! As your lease ends and you start moving out of your apartment, keep these sustainability tips in mind so we can preserve the beauty that is Isla Vista: Sell or donate as many items as you can! Host a garage sale, donate to thrift stores, and give away belongingsespecially furniture. Use reusable moving boxes to pack what you’ll be keeping to reduce waste. Recycle, recycle, recycle! It can be tempting to just toss e...verything in the trash but take the time to separate out recyclables (pay special attention to electronics). Use green cleaning products and prevent toxins from entering our water systems. See more

The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) is currently accepting project proposals for the 2020/2021 Academic Year. Don’t miss the chance to fund your campus green project. Applications are due on Friday, February 5th, 2021. TGIF is a student-governed grant supported by a $3.47 lock-in fee that every UCSB undergraduate and graduate student pays each quarter. It raises over $170,000 per year to fund projects that reduce UCSB’s impact on the environment. Any UCSB student, staff, or f...aculty member is eligible to apply for funding for their projects. Ideal projects will show a quantifiable change (energy, waste, water reduction, etc.) while also educating the campus community. If you have questions about your project idea, proposal guidelines or the selection process, please contact Jewel Persad at 893-8367 or [email protected] For more information on previously funded projects or to submit an application, please visit the TGIF web site: https://sustainability.ucsb.edu/tgif/apply-for-a-grant
