The UCSB COVID Response Team and the UCSB Food Security and Basic Needs Taskforce is partnering to launch a food and donation drive at the two asymptomatic testing centers on campus! Please help our students through the Grocery Delivery program which brings food to students who are food insecure and also sick, immunocompromised, in quarantine, or over 60. We are collecting shelf stable unopened and undamaged food items (canned goods, cereal boxes, pantry staples, etc.) which... have not passed their expiration date and hygiene products at the two testing centers (Loma Pelona and Santa Catalina). If you have a scheduled appointment for testing, you can drop food items off at either location (whichever your appointment is scheduled for). If you do not have a scheduled appointment, please bring donations to Loma Pelona and not to Santa Catalina. Loma Pelona is open Monday through Friday (8:30-11:45 & 1:05-4:45). All of the food and hygiene products will be donated to food insecure UCSB students. This will include supporting our grocery delivery program for food insecure students who are sick, immuno-compromised, quarantined or over 60 (https://forms.gle/K8oW2TD6yA8cGUh2A). Food may also be distributed through campus pantries or other food distributions for UCSB students experiencing food insecurity. If you don't have food in your pantry that you want to donate, we also accept financial donations. Please contact Delene Goodell Bliss, Senior Director of Development, Division of Student Affairs, [email protected] if you would like to make a gift. Our basic needs programs is able to access food at heavily discounted rates and so a financial donation can usually result in more food than if you purchase food to donate on your own. If you have questions about the food and donation donation drive, please email Katie: [email protected]

In this upcoming It’s A Science webinar we will be taking an in-depth look at how the use of screens can either aid or inhibit our cognitive performance in various areas of our lives. Be it academic, vocational, or recreational, the manner in which we use our devices can have a big impact on our ability to accomplish what we want to throughout our day. We will be exploring the inextricable link that exists between how we use screens and our cognitive capabilities, with a spec...ific focus on mental health topics such as ADHD and anxiety which have been known to substantially impede executive functioning. In addition, we will be offering concrete skills you can implement to reduce distractibility, increase productivity, more effectively manage your time and improve overall cognitive functioning as a whole.
