We are excited to introduce you to our Women’s Center Interns for this academic year of 2020-2021! Our Intern spotlight for today is Jermani Sadler! Jermani is a third-year Marshall College student majoring in Cognitive & Behavioral Neuroscience with a minor in General Biology. She is a first-generation student and was born in Long Beach, CA, but grew up in Moreno Valley & Oak Hills, CA. Fun fact about her is that she is afraid of heights, but went skydiving a couple of yea...rs ago would definitely recommend, but never doing it again. She also describes herself as a Foodie because she is passionate about food. I love the detail in certain meals; I’ve been trying out all the steakhouses in San Diego. Jermani is passionate about social justice work and knowledge. She enjoys free expression and loves creating space for others to find the community. She believes in strengthening herself in feminist and intersectional beliefs so that she can navigate through the world with a deeper understanding of how to be an aid in dismantling oppression across all systems. Her hopes for this internship are to create a virtual community where students, staff, and faculty can interact with one another. It will be very different this year, but we are advancing day by day with innovative thinking of how to engage people during these difficult times.

In addition to being popular among her constituents, she is well known for her strong advocacy of worker's rights, equitable universal healthcare for all, climate change, LGBTQ+ Rights, and more. Ocasio-Cortez is currently working towards increasing awareness among politicians on how COVID-19 is negatively impacting communities of color and trying to reduce inequalities on legislative levels.
