UCR Women's Resource Center 08.07.2021

In the Women’s Resource Center we know Black Lives Matter today, and every day. That’s why in 2017 we led the efforts to bring BLM co-founders Alicia Garza and Patrisse Cullors to campus. The WRC supports efforts to advance equity & end police brutality led by groups like The Movement for Black Lives & NAACP, both locally and nationally. As Alicia Garza stated yesterday, "Ending police violence is a long game. It takes organizing. Protest to up the ante. Public and private p...ressure." While there are many ways to serve this work, we encourage all non-black community members to engage thoughtfully. This week, June 1 -7, we will be participating in #amplifymelantedvoices and not posting any original content on our platforms to center the voices of Black thought leaders, educators, and authors. While our space is intersectionally led and utilized, we acknowledge the fact that for some, feminist spaces will always be perceived as white feminist spaces and it is on us to challenge that narrative. The teachers we are promoting all have professional and lived experiences vital to this work. Learn with us, we all have a part to play. #blacklivesmatter #standwithblackhighlanders
