What is #Juneteenth? On June 19th 1865, Union soldiers led by Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced the end of the war and that the enslaved were now free. It’s important to note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, in which many enslavers continued to hold enslaved families, children and communities. A symbolic date for African-American and Black people, Juneteenth is symbolic day of freedom, resilience, and a continued commitment in fighting for true liberation. Check out our stories for resources and events happening in our community! #juneteenth #blackresilience

During COVID-19, many students have been following the stay at home order. For some students, violence and isolation at home can cause many to feel unsafe. CARE advocates provide a confidential space to help students impacted by sexual and relationship violence sort through their emotions, resources, and options. We wanted to share how students can find out how to get in contact with GSA DIAL and CARE and get to know the services we offer. Graduate Student Assocation Diversity & Inclusion Academic Liasion (GSA DIAL) offers referrals and support around issues like discrimination and harrassment. Connect with GSA DIAL [email protected] over email, phone, or zoom support.
