"As a woman and a patient, I know what makes a difference to me, and I try to consider that in my interactions with our patients..." One of our own discusses Helping Patients Navigate Their Care with the UCLA Newsletter in March, and discusses her passion for patient care and some of her hobbies when she isn't working in Westlake Village. This is Us! And we love taking care of U here at UCLA!
What do you know about mammograms? They are the most effective tool available to detect breast cancer before lumps can be felt or symptoms appear. Early detection of breast cancer not only helps provide a woman with more options, but also increases her chances of having the best possible outcome.
It's just a "little" heart attack...
On May 19th & 20th we will be attending the California Women's Conference at the Long Beach Convention Center. Come join us! For more information, visit the event website at http://californiawomensconference.com/
We see patients of all ages here at UCLA OBGYN, Westlake Village. Girls are getting their first period at younger ages. Here is a great, brief list of tips to help you talk to your daughter about changes.
Join our very own Leena Nathan, MD, as she explores sexually transmitted diseases - their causes, diagnoses, treatments and prevention. She will also address issues concerning minors, including consents when seeking medical treatment and laws about reporting sexual relationships! Register for the live-streaming webinar and join the conversation on Twitter at @UCLAHealth with hashtag #UCLAMDChat to ask Dr. Nathan questions.
While it's very tempting to use all the resources at our fingertips with just a few clicks and keystrokes, there are definitely some hazards to using the internet when you aren't feeling well! Try to avoid what some are calling "cyberchondria" with a few tips: 1. Search trusted websites that are reputable and vetted by medical experts, like the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (http://www.cdc.gov/)... 2. Don't wander! Keep your searches targeted and only research symptoms you have. 3. Double check and don't worry for no reason. If information online makes you concerned and nervous, visit your doctor. Tell your doctor your symptoms, what you found, and make sure your concerns are addressed.
The website of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is a wonderful resource for patients. You can find comprehensive information about many topics here!
