Now an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, she continues to stay active in local leadership by serving as Membership Committee Chair of the Western Los Angeles Dental Society, president of the Women in Dentistry South Bay Chapter, and was recently selected as a recipient of the 2021 Southern California Super Doctors Rising Star Awar...d. UCLA in the Community: UCLA dental students (and a few faculty) volunteered their time at the event, coined Tacos and Toothbrushes. Volunteers served 105 adults and 39 children, who stayed in their cars while they received treatment. Over a three-hour timeframe, 21 dental students, under the supervision of UCLA Dentistry professors helped to organize a line of cars and applied fluoride varnish to prevent dental disease in addition to handing out oral health kits, dental refer...ral information and freshly made tacos. I loved being able to provide fluoride varnish to those in need because I know the importance of preventative care. Meet alumna Dr. Katy Rosen, Class of 2013, who is now a Pediatric Dentist practicing in Northern California. Growing up in Pittsburgh, Penn., she knew from an early age that she wanted to pursue a career in healthcare focusing on children and young adults. Developing a rapid, point-of-care test to detect the novel coronavirus would eliminate the numerous bottlenecks that our healthcare system faces and would streamline our country’s testing capabilities. Faculty expert on orofacial pain, Dr. Sherwin Arman, recently lent his expertise to Huff Post about bruxism. I’m hearing patients tell me, ‘I can’t stop clenching and grinding at night.' He added that they are also frequently mentioning the recession and the election as reasons for the grinding. The article includes tips to help people who are suffering from this problem.
