Today we are featuring Lara Adourian, who graduated from UCI in 2010 and is currently working on her Master’s degree in Spatial Analysis for Public Health. Right now she works as a business and data analyst for OC Environmental Health. She loves her job because she can always learn and apply herself in ways she never thought she could before! She is inspired from the people around her who have diverse skill sets, strengths, and perspectives. Her favorite UCI memory is the 6th... floor of the science library where she can look out to the ocean on a clear day. She leaves a wise message to all the students out there Don't be disappointed if you're not where you expected to be at some point in the future. You might just need some extra time to accomplish what you wanted to accomplish, or you may even end up somewhere better than your original plans. Thank you Lara for all of your insight! Today we are highlighting Nikki Deville, who graduated from UCI in 2019 with a Ph.D in Public Health. Originally from Ewa Beach, HI, she now lives in Boston, MA where she is an Environmental Epidemiology Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health and Brigham Women’s Hospital. Nikki’s passion for Public Health fuels her dream to obtain a position that allows her to research, teach, and improve health outcomes in Pacific Islander populations. She is inspire...d by two of our own UCI Public Health professors, Dr. Veronica Vieira and Dr. Miryha Runnerstrom. If there’s one thing she misses about being back in California, it’s the beautiful weather! Nikki wanted to share a message with our current students The mountain in front of you is a reminder that it is time to rise to new heights-Nidhi Shah. Thank you Nikki for sharing your story, we are so proud of all the amazing achievements you have already accomplished and can’t wait to see what’s in store! See more
Scientists at the University of California, Irvine have unveiled a public website that provides up-to-date statistics on coronavirus infections in Orange County, with comparisons to neighboring and other California counties.
Today we are highlighting Emily Seto, who graduated from UCI in 2013 with a Bachelors in Public Health Sciences. Born and raised in LA, Emily now works as a Planetary Protection Engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. Emily’s job is to prevent the contamination of celestial bodies by confirming that spacecraft launched from Earth are clean. Another interesting aspect of Emily’s job is that her office is wherever her work takes her! She was most rece...ntly part of the Assembly, Test, and Launch Operations team at the Kennedy Space Center that supported the successful launch of Mars2020. After this mission, she is working on a campaign called Mars Sample Return, scheduled to happen within the next decade. She is leading a research task to ensure that the samples brought back are safe. She is inspired by her parents who have made so many sacrifices to ensure her bright future. Her favorite UCI memory is walking around ring road with her friends and $2 boba. She wants to send a message out to her fellow students and alumni You are the pilot and you control how far you go. Thank you Emily for sharing your story, and for showing us how women in STEM can accomplish anything! You make the UCI Program of Public Health proud! See more
