Women's Daytime Drop-In Center Donation Drive! UCB MEDLIFE is working with the Women's Daytime Drop-in Center to hold a donations drive for some much needed supplies that they will provide to the homeless and underprivileged women in the Berkeley area. The drive started Monday, October 5th and will go until Monday, October 19th. HERE is the list of items WDCC provided for us and are prioritized:... Toilet paper Paper towel Antibacterial cleaning supplies Hot disposable coffee cups Deodorant New bath towel set for families (dark colors only) Mittens/gloves for winter Size 5 diapers Size 6 diapers Baby wipes Pull ups size 3T/4T If you are at the capacity, WDCC is prioritizing money donations, which can be done at their site: https://www.womensdropin.org/. These donations can help buy things needed on the spot! If you wish to purchase any of the items and either drop them off at an officer's home or have them sent to one of our homes, please feel free to reach out to us! Welcome back to school, everyone! MEDLIFE is back in full swing! MEDLIFE (Medicine, Education, and Development for Low Income Families Everywhere) is an organization dedicated to helping families achieve greater freedom from the constraints of poverty, empowering them to live healthier lives. As our acronym states, we work both globally through our decal which focuses on global health issues, including topics such as equality vs equity vs justice. We also focus on the cultur...al and historical contexts of health disparities in Peru. If you are more interested in working locally with our club, we will discuss the systematic causes of homelessness and what actions we can take to help. Our club will also feature global health professionals who will speak on topics in relation to health equity. $5 That’s all it takes to feed a struggling family of 5 for a day. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a shock to everyone and has thrown many people’s plans out of order. However, during this times of vast awareness of the issues that lie in the foundations of the systems that we live by today, at a time when we are angry about the state of the world, we must also remember compassion. Compassion for our friends and family, compassion for our neighbours, and compassion for the pe...ople around us who are being deeply affected by this pandemic. UCB MEDLIFE is part of a large international organisation that works in underprivileged communities all over the world, and at this time they are struggling. For food, for water, and protection from this devastating illness. The Berkeley chapter works specifically in the communities of Pamplona alta, the vast slums that surround Lima Peru. Because of the faltering economies internationally, Peru has been on complete lockdown, which has caused many of the people in these communities to lose work. And for them, no work means no food. As a team that has been working with these communities for a year and have grown to know and love the people that we work with, it breaks our hearts to know that our communities are struggling. So we are reaching out to you. MEDLIFE International has started the moving mountains campaign, wherein we call on our friends, families and loved ones to sign up for monthly donations to the cause. All we ask is a $5 per month donation, which can make leaps and bounds to supporting our partner communities in their fight to survive this devastating pandemic. With everything going on in the world, we can understand being upset, angry, and saddened by what we see around us. But we at uCB MEDLIFE have chosen to fight for what we believe is right and to help provide food, water and protection to those who are the most in need. Will you join us?
