The team working on the AVIATA Project the collaborative drone system we’ve been developing with NASA’s support has been throwing around the idea of creating a series of blog posts to give everyone updates on our project, and we’ve decided to kick that process off today! Here’s the link to our first blog post, which contains an introduction to the software design work by Axel, an introduction to the mechanical design work by Bhrugu, and an introduction to how we came about this project in the first place: https://uasatucla.org/en/aviata/blog/09-18-2020

We hope everyone is having a good summer break! Our team has been working hard on developing an Autonomous Vehicle Infinite Air Time Apparatus (AVIATA) #drone system, a swarm of drones with the ability to carry a payload in the air indefinitely, as part of NASA's University Student Research Challenge. In addition, we will be posting bi-weekly software and airframe blog updates! To bring our project to life, we need your help. So far, we have raised $2469 from our GoFundMe campaign and we are just $531 away from reaching our goal. Will you help us? https://www.gofundme.com/f/aviata-student-research-challenge #uav #drones #nasa

Meet our technical captain, Comran! Favorite thing about UAS? Working on a team project with a purely undergraduate student body, and applying skills from class on a physical machine that can fly. ... Favorite memory? Seeing Spinny fly for the first time at the airfield and hearing the satisfying sound of the huge drone flying by! Fun fact? I occasionally DJ, and also enjoy building big sound systems to blast music on.

For this week’s feature, meet our External Vice President, Ryan! Ryan has been an active member of UAS since 2018, and is in the airframe/business/everything subteam What is your favorite thing about UAS? I like doing things I love in engineering other than going to class and doing it for a grade. It’s a nice change of scenery with a good community of like-minded people. Favorite memory? Flying a drone for our first test flight! ... Fun fact? I love travelling...I also play piano in my free time. Stay tuned to meet the rest of our awesome team, more posts to come!
