Beloved Education Advocate and Tuskegee Airman Dies Days Before 101st Birthday www.taisf.org #tuskegeeairmen, #military, #armyaircorps, #army, #blackpilots, #scholarships, #educators, #pictureoftheday, #marriage... We are devastated, stunned and distraught. We lost our beloved Ted. Tuskegee Airman Lt Col Theodore "Ted" George Lumpkin, Jr., passed away December 26th just four days short of his 101st birthday. He surrendered to COVID-19 after a short battle. If anyone could beat COVID-19, we thought Ted could. He had been so victorious in other things; this would be one more thing added to his legacy. Shortly before his passing, he was scheduled to celebrate his 101st birthday with us. Unfortunately, Ted was unable to attend due to his diagnosis and we would soon learn of our great loss. Ted was admired in so many ways, including an amazing 72-year long marriage to Georgia, making her his mate, September 10, 1948. He was devoted to the Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Foundation, where he served as board member, advisor and mentor. He led by example. Always pursuing excellence, Ted had a stellar military career serving as an air combat intelligence officer attached to the 332nd Fighter Group. As a civilian, he worked 32 years with Los Angeles County government and subsequently owned a real estate business. Education was a priority, earning an associate of arts degree in mathematics from, Los Angeles Community College, as well as an undergraduate and master’s degree from University of Southern California (USC). When Ted talked, people listened, because what one was about to hear were words of wisdom. Known to have had a great sense of humor too, he was forthright and often shared his insightful opinion. An inspiration to young and old alike, he was rightfully proud of his service to America’s military and the heroic impact made by celebrated Tuskegee Airmen. He had exceptional character and a concerned heart. Aside from his exemplary biography, he was just a rock-solid person, someone most would be grateful to know. Like so many #TuskegeeAirmen, #LonelyEagles that preceded him in death, Ted’s long life, commitment to causes, and his welcoming personality made him a true champion and a giant amount many. Tuskegee Airmen Celebrates 101st Birthday, Urges Scholarship Support Give a gift of $101.00 or more in honor of Lt. Col Lumpkin's 101st birthday. It’s all about student scholarships says Lumpkin. Just click our DONATION button. I count every day a blessing, but I’m not done yet! says Lieutenant Colonel Ted Lumpkin (USAF, Ret.) The documented original Tuskegee Airmen’s goal is to have donors match his age with financial gifts to the Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Foundation ...(TASF). We’re creating the next generation, right now says Lumpkin. Help celebrate Lt. Col. Lumpkin’s December 30th birthday by donating to the Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Foundation (TASF). Since its inception in 1978, TASF has granted over 1,400 scholarships to academically and financially deserving students totaling near $2.5 million. Scholarships focus on aviation, aerospace, and STEM but supports other disciplines as well. The foundation supports high performing under-served students who value the legacy of the Red Tails and exemplify the character and courage demonstrated by the all-black military unit. About #GIVINGTUESDAYNOW www.taisf.org #givingtuesdaynow, #covidcantstopgood, # Mobilizing the World Through Giving... Many of our scholars are from fragile families, some near or below the US poverty line. Returning home put additional financial stress on already tight budgets. With the loss of school-sponsored room and board, many of these students returned home to lean pantries and long lines for free food. You can help provide a $300 grocery gift card for scholars critically in need. We believe that generosity has the power to unite and heal communities in good times and bad. A global threat like COVID-19 touches every person on the planet, and it presents an opportunity to come together as a global community. #GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020 #GivingTuesday as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. Let’s come together to create a wave of generosity, citizen engagement, action from business and philanthropy, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.
