Each year #Juneteenth is celebrated to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States in 1865. The story isn’t that simple though, as the Emancipation Proclamation had already been in effect for two years, since 1863. This article is a great mix of resources to support learning more about the day, and some ways to celebrate! Happy Juneteenth! https://www.cnet.com//juneteenth-is-june-19-what-it-is-wh/

By providing positive representation of all people, you will create an inclusive learning environment for everyone. This list is an amazing group of people, and there’s lots of opportunity to create art inspired by the work of these artists! #PrideMonth #ArtsEquity https://theartofeducation.edu//5-lgbtq-artists-you-should/

Looking for an activity to welcome the summer? Head outside and celebrate #NaturePhotographyDay. The art of photography has so many entry points, genres and styles. While out there, you can go bird watching, visit a national park, watch the sunset or sunrise and capture your experience with your camera. #MakeArt outside! We closed out our annual #TACalifornia Principal Retreat Friday afternoon, and though we miss the in-person connection, we greatly appreciate being able to ‘gather’, virtually with our network! BIG BIG thank you to our coach presenters, Dr. Akida Long and Viviana Espinosa, and our Principal Presenters, Cristy Campanaro, Dai Shalon Jordan, Lydia Burgos, Marcos Hernandez, and Stephanie Richardson. They shared a bit about what their schools are doing, and how they’re making dist...ance learning work for them! It’s a continued process, and we’ve got a great team! Frank J. Zamboni Middle School is a 6th-8th grade school that joined TACA in 2018. This year, schools were asked to reflect on their use of the arts to meet challenges during distance learning. At Zamboni, students interacted with art work in Social Studies using Visual Thinking Strategies. For example, during their study of Ancient Mesopotamia, teachers introduced the photograph of the lion’s head from the blue-and yellow glazed brick walls leading to the Ishtar Gate. This... immediately engaged the students, triggered a higher level thinking discussion among the students in a risk-free environment, and created enthusiasm for subsequent lessons about this civilization. Zamboni also engaged with dance after school to practice for a dance they performed at the 2020 Winter Virtual Dance Performance. The students felt accomplished and proud of their dance performance. Parents and staff were amazed to see the talent of their students. And they’re continuing to practice for their next performance in the 2021 Spring Virtual Dance Performance! Frank J.
