SAMPLING Have you ever wondered why we come on site with those big poles? We use them to take samples of the water on site! They help us get to hard to reach bodies of water. We scoop up some water with the bottle on the end, then test the sample for things like pH and turbidity to make sure you're compliant! #watersampling #construction #stormwatermanagement #stormwaterrunoff #stormwatersuperhero #stormwaterpollutionprevention

CALIBRATION STATION This is where we calibrate our equipment before heading out in the field. Calibrating is when we tell our sampling devices (e.g. pH pen, DO meter, turbidimeter) what a certain value looks like, so that it can then compare that known value with that of our sample.... Proper calibration techniques keep our sampling data as accurate as possible. We focus a good chunk of training on proper use and care of our equipment. Field sampling has it's limitations, and proper training helps us maximize what we can do. We then use this equipment to test for common pollutants found on construction sites. This data can help us decide if BMPs are effective on-site, and if there are any sources upstream that we need to address. #stormwatermanagement #phbalance #calibration #construction #stormwaterrunoff #safetyfirst

Great work Alex Bermudez, CISEC-IT and Lindsey Berg Rosano, QSP! This has been a great project. https://www.tullygroup.com/post/napa-river-restoration

Tully Consulting Group 23.07.2020

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT The Napa River Restoration is in its last phase and is projected to be completed in 2021. We have been a part of this project for years. It has been an awesome experience. The project was to restore and enhance long-term floodplain function of the Napa River, remove invasive plant species, improve the quality of aquatic and riparian habitat, and reduce fine sediment deposition into the Napa River associated with ongoing bank erosion. ... Sensitive habitats were within the project boundaries for wildlife species including California Freshwater Shrimp, California Red-legged Frog, California Newt, Central California Coast Steelhead, Foothill yellow-legged frog, Chinook Salmon, Western Pond Turtles, Dusky-footed Woodrat, Pacific Chorus Frog, Pallid Bat, Townsend's Big-eared Bat, Swainson's Hawk, Common aquatic and terrestrial species, and Nesting Birds. Various permits were required including the CDFW Streambed Alteration Agreement, US NOAA Endangered Species Act, SF Bay 401 Water Quality Certification, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 404 Permit. Siteworks Construction is the Prime Contractor and has done a great job with stormwater management throughout multiple phases and several rainy seasons. They performed grading and earthwork improvements along the river and had a Subcontractor install most of the permanent BMPs. They've been dedicated throughout the phases to protect an environmentally sensitive project site and implement proper best management practices. The site is looking great! Tully Consulting Group prepared the SWPPPs, provided SWPPP Inspections as well as QSP/QSD services throughout the course of the restoration. We also did a lot of sampling and met with the water board several times during the different phases. Fun Fact: Temporary brush piles have been used to provide temporary cover for smaller wildlife species during the course of construction.

HYDROSEEDING Made up of wood, fiber, seed, fertilizer, and stabilizers and used for temporary erosion control. Apply it to disturbed soils prior to winter. The fiber matrix and seeds provide soil stability and cover to prevent erosion. ... Check that the seed mix is approved for the desired location and application. When applying, ensure that hydroseed is sprayed from two directions to prevent shadowing, and is sprayed thick enough to provide full coverage of disturbed soil area (2,000 lbs per acre). Irrigation may be needed for adequate germination

It's Thankful Thursday and we're paying respect to Deep-sea corals! Seen here are the beautiful and brightly colored Orange hydroids (Garveia annulata) and Stra...wberry anenome (Corynactis californica). Formations such as this one, covered in vibrant invertebrates and surrounded by rock fish, can be found off the California coast within NOAA's Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary and NOAA's Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary. These reef assemblages form complex ecosystems that provide habitat and food for benthic fish communities. ________________________ Photo credit: Joe Hoyt / NOAA CBNMS

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT This project was for a new science building to replace the old Mohr Hall which was built in 1962. The departments that occupy the new facility include geology, astronomy, physics nursing, physical therapy and occupational therapy. The project included demolition of existing buildings and asbestos abatement. The cool new science building is also designed to meet LEED silver standards. The building contractor used recycled building demolition pieces to f...orm the rock construction entrance which was pretty resourceful. Tully Consulting provided stormwater inspection. Stormwater sampling was not necessary as the runoff discharged into a combined sanitary sewer system which gets treated by a Public Treatment System. There is a plan to build a future second building and nice courtyard, hopefully starting this year or next year.
