Sometimes reality is better than your dreams A few months ago I was struck by the thought of what if we hosted our own shootout? and in just a few short months we made magic happen. This definitely was a risk for me because we weren’t just putting together a styled shoot but also inviting in photographers to come be a part of it and opening up our work as something of value and as an educational experience. Alex and I are in Palm Springs looking at wedding venues and there are so many things you need to think about! Here are just a few questions to think about as you begin to look for a venue: 1. What is their max capacity?... 2. If they are a hotel, do you have to buy it out to use the space? 3. What time is sunset when you are thinking about getting married? Will you need to bring in extra lighting? 4. Do they have a preferred vendors list and can you deviate from it? And if you do, is there a fee? 5. Can you use the property however you want or is there a set way to utilize the space? 6. What is included in the site fee? Is there a fee for overtime? Can you extend hours if you want? 7. What isn’t included but still required by the venue like a planner? 8. What is their postponement and cancellation policy? 9. Are kids allowed on property? What about animals? 10. What is the time you are allowed to use the venue? When can vendors arrive? When can rentals be dropped off? When can you arrive on site? When can your guests arrive on site? We love engagement season, we love Friday’s, California lifted the stay at home order and we’ve almost made it through the first month of 2021, so pop some bubbly, don some sparkly pants and let’s celebrate this weekend! How do you celebrate things big or small? For me, this past year has always been about making even the smallest celebration special whether that’s an oyster dinner to celebrate Alex’s 30th birthday or pulling together a disco ball filled 70’s New Years party for four.

Color can bring such a pop of the unexpected! This stunning white barn filled with antique touches and natural wood was a perfect canvas for a more modern and colorful table which reflects the colors of the summer garden just outside. With such a blank canvas, we knew we wanted to bring in the riot of colors visible just outside the barn. We wanted to stick with bright pinks, lavender purple and deep summer greens. The flowers were the anchors to this color palette and we k...ept everything else simple with black plates, white napkins and linen and those amazing antique chairs. We love to do venue tours and we always make sure to check out your venue beforehand because you never know what hidden photo spots we are going to find. This greenhouse at Robert Young Estate Winery is a perfect example of just one of the hidden spots on the property that make for amazing photos. When you hire us as your planners and event designers we always make sure to go the extra mile and search out these special locations. We also suggest building in time into your ti...meline for couple portraits whether that is before your ceremony or during sunset for those special golden hour photos. At the end of the day, your photos will be a physical reminder of all the amazing memories of your wedding and so we want to make sure that they are unique and a reflection of you. Despite the challenges of 2020 we are so proud of the beauty we were able to create. In true 2020 fashion, the day of our editorial it was pouring rain forcing us to get creative with our designs and you know what, I think it was better than the original set up. And on top of it, we were able to use the greenhouse to capture some stunning and romantic photos. Seriously, I think this editorial is the highlight of our year! ...
