After a metaphorically dark year, the last thing you may want to partake in is a day the highlights the longest night (and shortest day) of the year. Winter Solstice, however, is a reminder that "what goes up, must come down," and so at the end of the dark winter, is always the light of spring. Celebrated by many ancient religions and cultures, this day honors the rebirth of the sun, allowing us to focus on renewal and self-reflection. Today, we invite you to take some time f...or your own inner reflection by journaling or meditating. . . . . . . . #wintersolstice#reflection#renewal#rebirth#mindbodyconnection#selfcare#mindfulnesstechniques#TrueLifeCenterSD#mentalhealthadvocacy See more

Testimonial from a True Life IOP Patient: "I had no clue what an IOP was before I went to True Life. I had always assumed if you need serious care, you checked into rehab. I’ve been to rehab several times, putting my life on hold each time, and I wish I could have that time back. I never would have thought I could get the same treatment without having to leave my kids or quit my job. I’m not sure why more people don’t do this. They probably don’t know it exists. It exists! Feeling jittery, anxious, or stomach discomfort following all of the holiday treats? Because of the nutritional makeup of most holiday goodies, we digest them very quickly. This leads to the infamous "crash" in energy and is often accompanied by an upset stomach. A tip from the nutrition experts: enjoy your treats with/after a hardy meal, or add an element of protein and/or fiber. This could mean having a piece of fruit with your cookie, or a small handful of nuts with hot co...coa. . . . . . . . #TrueLifeCenterSD#nutrition#nutritiontips#fiber#protein#wellness#selfcare#holisticpsychiatry#neuropsychology#neurobiologicalintegration#mindbodyconnection#mentalwellness#selfhealingjourney#mindfulnesstechniques See more

At the center of so many conditions of mental illness, there is dysregulation of the nervous system, which means that people feel physiological symptoms of anxiety, trauma, and depression in their body, whether that be lethargy and lack of energy, heart palpitations, chest tightness, or muscle tension and night sweats. At True Life Center, we use Neurobiological Integration (NBI) to help regulate the nervous system to transmit chemicals that make you feel more calm, safe, and energized. Achieved through the incorporation of multidisciplinary therapies, we can understand and address how the mind and body are experiencing and expressing psychological and physiological distress and implement skills to facilitate greater healing and awareness.

The gut is a super system, helping us regulate mood, identify emotion, and fight off illness. Chronic stress, fatigue, anxiety, and substances lead to disturbances in the gut which only further contribute to painful physical and emotional symptoms. That’s why we nurture gut health and nutrition at True Life. Our Registered Dietitian meets with patients to help establish healthful balance and simple structure that patients can feel confident about continuing throughout their lifetimes. This is important, because by maintaining the wellness of this system, we help to regulate the health of body AND mind.

World Mental Health Day was observed for the first time on this day in 1992. Within 3 years, the planning materials developed for the day were translated into Spanish, French, Russian, Hindi, Japanese, Chinese and Arabic. With an initial goal of "Improving the Quality of Mental Health Services throughout the World," the day itself has expanded globally to include themes such as: women, children, health, work, trauma, suicide, and so much more. Stand with us as we unite the cause and advocate for the global mental health movement by sharing a post with #mentalhealthforall.

With the abundance of treatment options and mental health professionals, each promising different approaches and better results, finding the right care for you or your loved one can be an added stressor in an already challenging situation. One of the first, and biggest, decisions you'll need to make as you begin your addiction treatment search is whether an inpatient or outpatient program will better help you reach your recovery goals. Some of the unique benefits of outpatien...t treatment include: . 1. Flexibility and Freedom - Outside of the treatment hours that patients spend at the facility, patients are able to spend their time as they choose - maintaining work or school schedules, raising children, or continuing to support their families. . 2. More Affordable Treatment: great addiction doesn't come cheap. In residential treatment (or "rehab") patients must foot the bill for accommodations, meals, housekeeping, etc. adding significantly to their actual treatment cost. Outpatient centers have far less overhead, so that patients are paying an amount that accurately reflects the cost of care. . 3. High-Quality, Personalized Care: because time is more limited at outpatient centers (up to 20 hours/week), sessions tend to be more focused. And the flexibility of scheduling for both patients and practioners allows for more treatment options, more personalized treatment, and more one-on-one sessions. . 4. Real World Recovery: outpatient treatment allows individuals the opportunity to immediately incorporate what they learn into their everyday life. For those choosing this kind of care, recovery is forged within the context of daily stressors, challenges, and potential setbacks allowing the experience to navigate relationships, careers, education, and recreation while sober. Testimonial from True Life IOP patient: "Have anxiety? Want to do more than numb it with some pills and call it good? This is the place you want to be. They really helped me with the physical issues my anxiety was causing that nobody else seemed to be concerned with. Yoga, nutrition, fitness, meditation, massage, acupuncture and therapy are all used to get you healthy in all areas of your life. As with most things, you have to be willing to do the work, but it’s worth it!"

It's no secret these days that health doesn't begin and end with just the body. Our emotional wellness plays a huge role in our overall health, yet starting or maintaining practices that honor our emotional and meal health is easier said than done. October is Emotional Wellness Month, so here at True Life we challenge you to try just one mindfulness practice for 30 days. Every Monday, we'll feature one of our staff members leading a mindfulness activity for you to try. All of the practices are simple, but it's not always easy - be sure to set an alarm or reminder for yourself!

The word ‘anxiety’ covers a broad range of conditions, ranging from a casual reference to a mood surrounding an unpleasant, anticipated event (I feel anxious about that peer review session), all the way to a clear sign of a debilitating disorder (I can’t get on that plane). Within that spectrum, psychiatrists have identified some major types of anxiety disorder that manifest in very different ways but can be equally devastating to your personal and professional life if le...ft untreated. A diagnosis can make a big difference in identifying the best treatment course for you. From Social Anxiety Disorder to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, our collaborative approach utilizes individual psychotherapy with skill building, specialized psychiatric treatment, acupuncture, yoga therapy, body healing, and mindfulness and self-compassion practices to aid in managing your anxiety in a proactive way. Our team of compassionate partners in care and healing at True Life Center has helped countless people to navigate their particular types of anxiety disorder and emerge with a set of tools and practices to build calm and well-being into their daily lives, rewiring their brains and rewriting their own stories.
