Welcome to your new Truckee Library. Building a connected community requires space the right space! Modern library facilities have spaces that enable people of all ages to collaborate and create connections. There are few spaces in our community that provide a large enough space where people can meet, exchange ideas and get inspired. By increasing space at the new Truckee Library, the community will have access to shared and private meeting rooms ranging in a variety of sizes.

We're inspired by Steamboat Springs' recent library expansion. In the first five years following the expansion (to 21,000sf), they saw a 37% annual increase in library visits and 61% increase in circulation. Now, they are welcoming over 1,000 visitors daily, making the space a popular community hub and crucial community asset!

We are dreaming of the new Truckee Library and the opportunities it will provide our community and its visitors. A larger library means more space to come together and be inspired!

A smaller population than Truckee, with a 35,000sf 'Center for Public Happiness' - Steamboat Springs is another community we look to when creating our vision for a new, modern library facility. The Bud Werner Memorial Library was remodeled and expanded in 2008 to accommodate the quickly growing community of Steamboat Springs. The 35,000sf facility serves as both a place for community gatherings, and a reading and research sanctuary. The library believes that the 2008 remodel succeeded in achieving their goal of creating a library that is a 'center of public happiness.' Truckee-Tahoe needs a space that is equally as accessible and available for all types of gathering and education - a larger space that acts as a hub for our community.

This is our future. And it is bright! Please give this a watch, we promise you will be inspired. On January 28, the Truckee Library, working with the local college and career access group La Fuerza Latina, hosted Voices from the Mountains: Latinx Students Closing the Distance. We heard from first generation high school and undergraduate scholars who shared how they are "closing the distance" between their rural immigrant upbringing and accessing broader professional careers. They share how they are 'closing the distance' academically, financially, and metaphysically as they navigate selective college admissions, diverse undergraduate life, and prepare for post-graduate programs and professional careers. Additionally, in between the speakers, other scholars presented poems, artwork, and music.

In times like these, our community connectivity hubs are more important than ever, as is the escape we can find through books. Don't forget the Libby app provides digital access to thousands of magical reads, and all you need is a library card to access!

There are so many reasons we love and support our Truckee Library and its staff, and this article includes a few of them. From online programming and curbside pickup to educational grab-bag distribution (over 1000 bilingual books distributed this summer alone!) and reading challenges, our local library has really stepped up to support our community during an unprecedented time. This space is truly becoming a Community Connectivity Center, and our passionate library staff ar...e at the heart of it. Please join us in thanking them for their service. https://www.mynevadacounty.com/336/Truckee-Library

We want our new library building to reflect our community: innovative, sustainable, welcoming, inclusive. LDA Partners, Inc received nearly 500 survey responses to their two visioning surveys this fall and are currently creating renderings and cost estimates for the building that will house our new community learning hub. Are there libraries that you've seen around the world with exteriors that you just love? Let us know! ... Interested in supporting our efforts to get us there? Donate to our Give Back Tahoe campaign! https://www.givebacktahoe.org//Friends-Of-The-Truckee-Libr

We’ll be thinking ‘green’ when it comes to the new library, but this one really goes above and beyond! What do you think? What types of sustainable practices (think alternative building materials, construction certifications, education and programming) would you like to see incorporated in the construction and operation of our new library?

We want to provide Elsa (pictured here with mom, Kai), and the youth of our region, a space to thrive. A space that allows them to learn, grow, and play. A safe, welcoming space for our community, young and old, to gather. Please consider a donation today to support our efforts to bring a new community learning hub to the region: https://www.givebacktahoe.org//Friends-Of-The-Truckee-Libr
