#TBT - - In 2010 I had the pleasure of performing in a play called Bitch. It was a series of monologues on the word and its many uses. Some made you laugh, others made you cry...it was a great show. I performed 2 monologues, Parking’s a bitch, where a man cut in front of me to steal my parking space and Son of a bitch where my son called me a bitch for the first time. Each monologue, written by @goldinlocs, directed by @datratheoriginal, was such a great story. I eve...n had the pleasure of coaching the cast. In fact, at least half of them became private coaching clients and we’re still in touch. It’s good to see them all doing so well. Such a great memory. There’s nothing quite like being on stage. By age 5, it was clear that I inherited my mother’s gift of dance and my father’s infectious personality. And although that came natural for me and led me to performing on an International Dance Team, I wasn’t interested in becoming a professional dancer. I just enjoyed entertaining my family & friends, but I wanted to make money. In my senior year of High School, I didn’t take being voted Most likely to be a TV or movie star seriously. It was just a popularity poll put ...together by my classmates! I pursued a degree in accounting and became an auditor. Yup, a nerd with rhythm & personality. That led me to production accounting, where executives asked me to read lines on camera for fun. They aired it in a promo for the first Queen Latifah Show. It was all fun & games until I started getting phone calls from people asking me what I would be on next!! I thought, What?...Next? I don’t know, I’m an accountant! So the nerd in me became curious about what to do next and I sought out to learn the process. The more I learned, the more hooked I became. Two decades later, I’ve been hired on 60+ tv/film projects, created my own audition technique, published it and started coaching privately, both on & off set... I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to change my life or change anyone else’s life, for that matter! Looking at this pic, I don’t know what’s next. But one day, I hope to see my IMDB score in the Top 5000. I’m curious to know how that looks and feels. Anyway, I’m taking it one moment at a time, and in this moment I’m feeling like I wanna make pancakes. I cant believe it’s been 14 years since I shot @gilmoregirls in January 2007 and I still have the original script! Seems like yesterday. It was my first guest star role on a network tv show. The character, Francette, was described as a scrawny nurse getting pushed around by The Gilmore’s. I didn’t think anybody would buy me getting pushed around, so I took a chance in the audition and chose to be rebellious instead. (See it in my story). I got the part! And It was a great le...sson on how to make choices that come from your true self, for the most authenticity in a role. And also how a talented and gutsy casting director like @maradcasey, also took a risk getting me in on a role that wasn’t looking for my type. Thank you Mara!
