Good morning from our quaranteam! How’s everyone doing? I’m spending lots of time with these bear cubs and doing what many of you are: cooking up a storm, cleaning what seems like constantly, and trying to limit exposure to the dizzying news stream. Connecting with family, friends and patients remotely feels like an extra special treat these days. ... As it turns out, virtual tele-health sessions are actually lovely. Who knew? And while they ARE different, patients are finding them effective for working on all the things we’d normally address in the clinic. So if you’re missing your regular acupuncture treatments as much as I’m missing you, shoot me a DM - I’m offering virtual tele-health sessions at a reduced rate as we navigate these wacky times. #treatacu See more

We’re in this together, and for that reason, it’s important that we stay apart right now. I’m listening to the experts who are urging us to comply with the initiatives to limit social contact in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19, and it’s important that we all do our part, so for the time being I’ll be suspending in-person visits for at least the next two weeks. The health and safety of my patients and the greater public is my first priority, so while it’...s a decision made with a heavy heart, I know it’s the right one. In the meantime, I’ll be available for telemedicine consults to support you however I can during this trying time with lifestyle recs for stress management, immune support, and herb and supplement suggestions that might be useful. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine are incredibly powerful tools for healing and bringing the body into a state of balance, but I want to remind you that they’re meant to activate your body’s ability to heal itself. While this is far from an ideal situation, let’s have faith in our bodies, our strength, and those around us to get through this and heal. For now, let’s get quiet in our cocoons, take good care, and stay connected to whether near or far. We need each other. Sending love to all, and I’ll keep you posted on clinic updates here. #treatacu Artwork by the talented @katepugsley whose work always makes me smile.

Headaches got you like ? We see a lot of headaches and migraines in the clinic, the kind that can keep someone in bed and out of work or their regular activities for a whole day. Often they’re triggered by hormone fluctuations just before or at the start of a woman’s cycle. These fluctuations can lead to imbalance and what we call stagnation in Chinese medicine, which can result in pain. In treatment we address the pain itself as well as the underlying imbalances causing pain, so episodes are less frequent and hopefully stop for good. Patients are pretty amazed to experience the immediate pain relief and longer term results, like when their regularly scheduled migraine doesn’t show up, and they don’t have to sit a day out anymore. Yes to that! #treatacu

When you’re feeling a wee bit run-down, these babies can help build you back up . Herb spotlight on Chinese dates, also called jujubes, or da zao, which are used in herbal prescriptions to nourish qi and blood, aid digestion, and generate fluids. They’re a great herb for postpartum patients or anyone feeling depleted. Bonus: they’re said to help calm the spirit and emotional issues that often accompany deficiency. ... I like tossing a few into the pot when I’m making broth to infuse it with a nourishing boost. Their flavor is mildly sweet, and it’s quickly become my secret ingredient to the most delicious broth ever. Now you know . #treatacu See more

Show me your tongue! One of the more fun party tricks we have as acupuncturists is tongue diagnosis. According to Chinese medicine the presentation of the tongue is an indication of what's going on inside your body. Along with a description of your symptoms and pulse diagnosis (another stellar party trick), the tongue helps us to determine our treatment plan. When you open up and say 'AAAHHH' we're looking at your tongue's color, shape, coating, and... if there any variations of these in specific areas. Furthermore, certain areas of the tongue correspond to organ systems in the body and give us information about the health of these systems. So... want to know what’s up with your tongue? #treatacu Artwork by @sarashakeel

Happy Lunar New Year! Oranges and tangerines are gifted and used as decoration around the new year to symbolize good luck and good fortune. Today marks the beginning of the Year of the Rat . Characterized as clever, creative, energetic and optimistic, the rat knows how to spot and seize an opportunity in front of them. As the first of 12 animals in the zodiac, the Year of the Rat is the start of a brand new 12-year cycle, symbolizing new beginnings. Pair ...that with 2020 and the start of a new decade, and we have quite the clean slate in front of us. Let’s make the most of it by bringing that rat energy: trusting our intellect, fostering creativity, staying in optimism, and welcoming exciting change in the coming year. Wishing you a year filled with health, happiness and good fortune. See more

I had a professor in acupuncture school who encouraged us to wear new clothes, preferably red on Chinese Lunar New Year to start the year fresh, and encourage good luck and prosperity. At the very least, she said, wear new underwear - Bonus points if they’re also red. I’d call that as good of an excuse as any to treat yourself to some snazzy new undies and to set the tone for the Year of the Rat, which begins on Saturday. Loving these maternity briefs from @_juem_ . #treatacu
