Ann Shulgin and her daughter Wendy Tucker (owner of Transform Press) pose with the first copy of Sasha’s new book, The Nature of Drugs. Ann recorded on cassette tapes Sasha’s lectures for his popular course of the same name in the chemistry department at San Francisco State University in the 1980s. Transform Press transcribed the tapes and turned them into a book. You don’t have to be a chemist to appreciate the book, since it was an introductory-level course. It’s chock full... of Sasha’s expertise on psychopharmacology and his philosophy on the value of psychedelics and his strongly-held opinion that the government has no business telling people which drugs are okay (alcohol, tobacco, caffeine) and which drugs have no legitimate use (LSD, psilocybin from magic mushrooms, MDMA). Sasha covered all these drugs and more over the course of the semester. In fact, he covered so much material that The Nature of Drugs had to be divided into three parts, so the book in the photo is volume one.
