Do it because it’s the right thing to do... some tips on being a good one! listen more than speak acknowledge you know little about their suffering or trauma experiences check your privilege on the daily review the biases you already have and own them, as often as needed expect to make many mistakes as one Never get defensive when checked by a member of that group; they are taking emotional energy to teach you so thank them instead and be grateful It is always ...a difficult time to be a black or brown person in this country but even more so lately. Support by educating yourself on your own, taking action rather than just expressing outrage, and hold space for the trauma they are experiencing. Lastly, be mindful of the images you are posting. Therapy Word Board of the Week It’s tough to find comfort in a situation where there is no prior experience or expertise to rely upon. It’s the first time in our lived history that this has happened. So guess what occurs? Panic, fear, anxiety, worry, grief and loss. These are expected when faced with the unknown. But is it really unknown? One constant I think we can rely on is that nothing is ever fixed or constant. As the sun rises on a new day, so does change. And the... same is true of this time. We may not know the answers or when it will end or how but we do have faith in one basic fact. This is temporary. Repeat after me, this is temporary. So even though you may feel trapped and scared, take comfort in that fact. Because as dire as today seems tomorrow will be different and improved a. Because that is life.
