POTTY BELL Teaching your puppy to ring a bell to go outside is a great trick and very helpful for house-training a puppy. This method may be preferred over having your puppy bark at the door or just standing at the door when you may not realize he is there waiting for you to take him out. Step 1... The first step is to hold the bell close to your puppy’s nose. Once the puppy touches the bell, say yes! and give the puppy a treat. If needed, you can encourage the puppy to touch the bell by holding a treat behind it or dabbing some peanut butter on the bell. Repeat until your puppy readily touches the bell with his nose, always giving lots of praise and a treat. When he confidently touches the bell as soon as you present it, add a word such as touch or bell. Start to hold the bell a little farther away, so the puppy has to make a few steps to touch it. Step 2 Once your puppy has learned to touch the bell on cue, hang the bell from the doorknob on the door where you would like for your puppy to go out. Encourage your puppy to touch the bell, and as soon as he does, say yes! and treat. Repeat until your puppy readily touches the bell when you give him the cue. Reward him and give him very enthusiastic praise! Step 3 Step three is teaching your puppy to ring the bell at the right time. Approach the door with your puppy, point to the bell, and say your cue, touch or bell. The moment he touches the bell, say yes!, open the door, and take him outside. With repetition, your puppy will learn that when he touches the bell, you will open the door. Four Lifesaving Training Games to Teach Your If your puppy begins to ring the bell just to go outside to play, you need to teach him that ringing the bell is only about potty time. When he rings the bell, clip on his leash, and take him to the place where you want him to eliminate. Give him a few minutes, and if he does his business, praise and give him a treat. If he does not, take him right back inside. Remember to make your puppy’s training a fun game with much praise and tiny treats. Everyone in the household should follow the same training method to avoid confusing the puppy. Know that your puppy has a short attention span, so have brief training sessions several times a day. When you know he has caught on, you can give him a jackpot of several tiny treats, one right after another. I am putting this on my training helpful canines because it is a huge help when your K9 is able to communicate with you the website that you see below is my other website which is basic training fun little videos an open conversation everybody is welcome

To answer the question of when to withdraw treats Once you have reached that 80% automatic threshold. (Example) for sit, meaning that your dog sits on cue 8 out of 10 times, stop rewarding him with a treat at the end of every success. An interesting thing starts to happen when you begin withdrawing treats that your dog has come to expect: he tries harder to get the treat which keeps him interested in training So to withdraw treats, what I like to do is start out with ...the numbers 3,4,5,6,7,8, write them on pieces of paper and put them in a bowl folded and pick one for that training session, (example) if you pick the number 4 and your training your dog to sit every 4th time he sits on command he gets his treat Being able to pick a different number each day allows what's called the slot machine game, it helps your dog to be excited and want to work harder for his rewards At some point you'll want you stop using treats all together. This is when we start withdrawing the treats from our previous (every few times) training technique At this point instead of picking numbers out of a bowl, what you will want to do is have your dog attempt to complete at least 7 techniques without treats ( and you will be bumping that number up each week of training) if your dog is able to do 7 techniques without treats on command what he gets at the end is called a jackpot, that would be a handful of treats (7-10)at one time.this keeps going with a bump up in the number 7 techniques 8 techniques 9 techniques And so on until eventually your dog will look for your cues, and your praise, instead of treats. Advice for food handling You can choose to let your puppy eat in peace but accidents can happen maybe a visitor or a child will see a drop piece of kible and feel obligated to put it into the dogs food dish that simple situation that nobody really thinks of is a reason to teach the concept of sharing space put your puppies dish on the floor and let her eat for a minute or two stand beside her with a teaspoon of cottage cheese on a spoon (or any treat your canine mig...ht like) as your puppy is eating cheerfully say (bonus) and lower the desired treat into the dish practice daily until your puppy eagerly looks up when she hears (bonus) then surprise her wait a few feet away and let her eat for a bit then walk toward her with the desired delicious addition as you get close say (bonus) and deposit the treat into her dish at this point you're puppy should be more accepting of humans who approach please note If you're puppie stiffens, snarls, or growls, discontinued this exercise and seek behavioral advice from your veterinarian or a veterinarian behavioralist See more

How to Train Your Dog to Speak or Be Quiet Teaching your dog to "speak," or bark on command, can be fun as well as useful: it's a fun trick to show family and friends and can ward off intruders. While excessive barking can be a huge problem, teaching the speak and quiet commands with dedication and consistency can both sharpen your dog's natural instinct and allow you to quiet your dog when needed. Different dog trainers and owners have varying techniques, b...Continue reading
