Trails

The last piece of music I composed in Sacramento. I am now far away from "Trails" and missing the place.

Trails is a little restaurant in Sacramento just off Broadway near the big Catholic cemetery. A vintage cow poke ambiance and friendly service are its hallmarks. Low stress eating is pleasant for some and if you're one of those folks then you'll really have to try this place out.

The first movement of a sonata for two pianos I composed a few months ago.

The title, Coronach refers to a Scotish Threnody, a kind of Goll which is the third part of a round of Keening, the traditional improvised singing at a death. What I was after, here, was the mood, as obviously this is not Celtic music. It is a piece in continuous development until the end.

Trails is one of the coolest places I've ever been. It's a relaxed, comfortable restaurant just off Broadway. There's nothing quite like it... at least, not in the 21st Century. It's a throw-back to a less corporate, slick and heartless world.
