Come for an evening of deep learning and discussion with the esteemed Dr. Carpten, Director at USC’s Institute of Translational Genomics and Tower’s newest board member. According to the American Cancer Society, Black communities and other populations disparately impacted by cancer experience greater obstacles to cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and survival, including systemic racial disparities that go beyond the obvious connection to cancer. Within the health car...e system, and in particular, in cancer care, these inequities are pervasive and entrenched, while the incredible advancements in cancer research have not benefited these same communities. In this lecture, Dr. Carpten, Director of the USC Institute for Translational Genomics, Keck School of Medicine, explores the root causes of these inequities and how we can develop strategies and initiatives to eliminate these disparities and make the system more equitable. There will be ample time for Q&A following the presentation. This free online event is open to the community and we welcome and encourage you to invite your friends and families.
