Back in Santa Fe for a Spring fling in the town I love. From Gustav Bauman’s home to the blooming cherries, apple, and Aspens, this day is in full glory. #thomascallawayassociates #adobehomes #santafestyle #bloomingfruittrees #newmexicospring

Remembering splendid, prepandemic days under the Tuscan sun. Longing to return to beloved Italy and all she holds! #thomascallawayassociates

Exactly one year ago I was fortunate to find myself back in Florence, Italy after a long time away from that favorite city. Upon arrival my dearest traveling partner, Jan Word and I immediately dashed over to see David, (whose eternal gaze I have stood beneath at least 4 times. The first when studying painting and art history in Europe when I was 20). He never disappoints.

Although I have shown a photo now and again of my home garden, being home more this Summer than ever before, I have enjoyed the garden more than ever. Please take a swipe at my various views behind my stone cottage.

To honor the beginning of June and the summer months ahead, please swipe through these four images of some sunny landscaping for one of my ground-up homes. Designing an entire project, structure, interiors and landscapes is always my greatest challenge and pleasure when the opportunity arises. These photos are some landscape views of an American Federal farmhouse compound I designed on two-plus acres in Los Angeles. A hillside of roses and trees, a trickling waterfall and p...ond, Adirondack chairs encircling a stone fire pit, and a climbing Eden rose espaliered up the stone chimney. https://www.thomascallaway.com/

I have always been fascinated to see artists’ studios: from painters to sculptors, printmakers, and designers. I thought some of you might have fun to see a couple glimpses of mine. There are beautiful, immaculate, well-designed spaces for some designers, to firestorms of mess, squalor, and artistic activity. I fall somewhere in the middle. Since I have collected stuff throughout my life, i.e. art from Calder to Hockney, antiques from New England to Europe, New Mexico to ...California, Native American to Spanish Colonial, and primitive to mid century, I am surrounded each day by all the memories of past purchases and creations. From the cluttered mess of my desk to the plethora of photos...family, friends, memories, and travels, this is my latest little corner of the world that has been one of my studios and comfort over my 30-plus years of design. https://www.thomascallaway.com/

This is the completed open kitchen of a beach house on the sand I renovated and decorated in Del Mar, California. I had several walls removed and the entire interior of the house fitted with beams, bead-board, additional hardwood floors (now painted), and new cabinets. It was a joy to do, and a kick to see the decorated finished product. I also designed this reclaimed pine kitchen table. I particularly enjoy the outside corner detail I had cut for this marble top. Summer is around the corner, and it looks like the beaches are opening at last. (Photo: Lisa Romerein) https://www.thomascallaway.com/

This is a view from the butler’s pantry toward the light filled dining room of a Palisades home I designed from the ground up. I am delighted this home was featured this spring in the Los Angeles version of Luxe Interiors + Design. I think the fresh aqua-blue and white wallpaper beckons one into this bright and charming room. (Photo by Manolo Langis) https://www.thomascallaway.com/

I just came across this photo of my first (ground-up) home which I designed in 1994. It is located in Los Angeles' Sullivan Canyon. This area is a residential horse community that was developed just after WWII by the late California designer Cliff May. Like May, I am an unlicensed architectural designer. But throughout my 30-plus year design career, I have been often given the opportunity to design the structures, the interiors, and landscaping of properties for dear clients ...who have been loyal fans of my design work. These trusting souls have given me free rein to bring their residential dreams to life. Of course, I throw myself wholeheartedly into these special projects, and they have often been the projects that have given me the most satisfaction and pride. This ode to the California ranch house with a connecting barn/stable structure and corrals was my first leap into this all-consuming, multi-discipline effort that captured my heart. A comfy horse is a happy horse! https://www.thomascallaway.com/
