During the Edo period, the Tokaido (East Sea Road) was the most important route connecting Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto. Along the Shizuoka City portion of the route..., the culture and local townscape of the time remain preserved, including six post towns that Edo messengers would rest at. What’s more, the scenic view depicted in Hiroshige Utagawa’s 1833 ukiyo-e painting The Satta Pass at Yui remains a stunning panorama you can see to this day!
